Hello all

I am new to the forum but not new to the world of classic fords. I was brought up around them, my father having a modified Anglia that he raced, and now its my turn to start expanding my garage.

I recently bought a Cortina Mk2 2-door. The shell is in excellent condition and has been resprayed. The next step is the engine and gearbox. I am looking to fit a 2l Pinto motor and a Sierra 5-speed gearbox.

I have heard that there are some modifications needed to fit the Pinto such as the sump needs to be cut and welded and the sump pickup needs to be moved, the exhaust needs to be rerouted and an electric fan needs to be fitted onto the radiator. Some say that the engine mounts need to be modified and others say that the engine just drops in. Are there other modifications that need to be done as well?

Are there any opinions on this matter and best ways to go about this project.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

sounds like a great idea im thinking of the same combo in my mk3 Cortina, I don't know much about the mk2s but if their anything like the 1.6 chassis escorts then youll need to use lowering blocks or move the gearbox body mounts as well

Couple of things,

Yes need a front sump, can cut and weld or go for one of the High Energy sumps. The later comes with pickup.

Dipstick needs moving,  There is a blanking plug in the block for the front dipstick option.

Pinto engine mounts will fit in the standard cross member although I modified mine to move the engine back for better weight distribution.

Wiring needs changing over as the alternator etc is now on the opposite side.

I used standard radiator with thermo fan.

Heater outlet is now on the wrong side for the pinto, and different diameter, I used some adaptors and top hose from a commodore.

Cant remember about tailshaft as I have celica 5 speed.

Clutch will need modifying to cable, easiest way is to graft an escort pedal to the top.

Should be about it.

Thanks guys. The info escortinadriver. I was still wondering how to do the clutch pedal. Getting on with the build slowly but surely.
