one more question, which might be a silly one, as i know this doesn't apply with my falcon,
but is the bell housing the same for auto and manual gearboxes? I only ask this as my auto bell housing has a plastic cover that pulls off the side, right where the (it looks like) throwout arm would pop out through the bell housing. is this correct?

Your MK1 should already have the tube for clutch cable (mine did). Have a look at the base of your booster bracket, there should be a short tube with a rubber bung in it.

MY BAD 1.6 radiator  does not  mount up the same.

The 1.6 manual gearbox is a different length and has a bigger mainshaft than the BW35 auto. So you need the 1.6 tailshaft. Auto and manual bellhousings are not the same.

ok thanks for all this info. i will check again when I'm around doing work on the car next, as to whether it has the clutch cable hole or not.

Thinking about it, i might already have the bigger/manual radiator, but will have to have another look. I wouldn't be surprised, as there are a few things I'm finding that are off either Mk2s, or are off something else.

I doubt it. The MK1 radiators are the same regardless of auto/manual. The MK2 is where it changes with heater lines for the C3 auto, none for the manual.
It's all explained in the ford, gregory's, haynes manuals etc. Do you have any manuals to reference? Cheap as chips on ebay, very much a necessity.

FINALLY!!!YES Finally i finished rebuilding the front suspension in the escort. it made me so happy to her back on all four wheels again :)

Test fitted one of the wheels from my brother's spare Peugeot 405 Mi16. perfect fit, just needs smaller tyres.

Rocking the old school, small RWD cars. Gareth's Datsun 120Y wagon in the garage. Sadly thats going back to Tasmania with his dad to be restored, because Gareth won't be able to take it with him when he moves out of the house :(

new front end. Im liking how much the sway bar stands out

enjoy the pics :)

looking good mate. is that a standard ratio rack? i put a quick rack in all my escorts. i prefer the feel. in my opinion its one of the best things you can do to a esky (for the price)

I'm not sure on the rack. its a Mk2 complete front end i know that. although fitting it all up today, i noticed a sticker/badge on the rack, it was blue and red i think had RS (it was R something i know that much). the rack doesn't seem to be very old, cos the boots are like brand new, and it feels beautiful and smooth.
