Always thought the bottom end was standard having never done much with the engine myself. After taking the head off to replace a broken head bolt it seems to have 0.040” pistons seem to say /KPF anyone know the brand?

Thanks Robbie, don’t be too envious, they are lots of work maintenance wise!!!

They don’t have dust seals as they are a racing brake so just need to be cleaned and rebuilt more often than dust sealed ones. It isn’t that much more work but just something to keep in mind. If you are a bit mechanically minded and happy to do the routine maintenance then I wouldn’t choose anything else (I also haven’t tried anything else other than the standard brake so small sample size!)

In terms of stopping power they are brilliant, feels like you are hitting a brick wall! Took some getting use to putting the anchors on and stopping 50m from the traffic lights! Also does highlight how underpowered the rears are.

What is your car mostly going to be used for?

Thanks for the reply

Yeah I’ve noticed the Uk based kits don’t include calipers with dust boots. Which we also need for road legality in south aus. I was talking to Reyland motorsport and they make any size disc/caliper combo you want. I was thinkinf a 277x25 with a cp5100 caliper. This does have dust boots.

I luckily picked up a complete r31 rear caliper kit so have that option for the back.

Ultimate plan is street legal duratec for Sunday drives and would like to punt a few hill climbs once life settles down a bit (Reno’s and new baby)

The CP5100‘s look like a winner to me! AP Racing stopping power, look and road legal and easy maintenance!

I can‘t remember my disc size off the top of my head but they are tight on the minilites. Just be sure to check you have no clearance issues before spending your hard earned cash.

That sounds excellent. I popped over to your build thread yester day and must say I am might impressed. Makes me a little ashamed to show mine after seeing the quality of yours. Your attention to detail is outstanding and is a true sleeper! Good luck with the Reno’, asking for it having a baby at the same time though hahahaah

Thanks again for the reply and for the kind words on my build. I got very lucky with a solid car from the start and have just improved it to how I want it inside. If you look at that speed hunters article that’s the goal I’m going for. Hence why nothing but AP will do. Tbh I thought I’d order the disc/calipers post build but the budget is blowing out due to some extra engineering required that we had not foreseen. Guess it’s to be expected with Reno’s on a 100 year old house.

The cp5100 do look like a winner and I was basing the 277size off what is used in the largest kit made to suit 13s. But wouldn’t really know until I got it in the car. I’m on 15s so will be ok but I really want some 13 inch hot wires.

I believe yours would 260ish?

How are you going getting it running again?

Those old houses get you like that! I just renovated a 1850’s stone cottage in Wales which was full of nice surprise! But nothing compares to an old houses’ character

Ah i didn’t realise you were on 15’s that makes sense.. might switch to the cp5100 myself if they work out for you! I think you are right mine are 260mm

how have you found your bias box? I’ve struggled a little with mine, keeps making contact with the throttle cable

At it again tomorrow but still waiting on some parts for the carburettor. Once they get here and I rebuild the carb I think it should be all go from then on (he says hoping the standard 100 other jobs don‘t come up)

Thanks! Yes nothing compares to the feel of a older house. Its been many years coming and now i can say the kitchen costs more then the car so justify some spending to the other half.

Yes on 15s but do love 13s on escorts hence why id love to have both options. Ive got a gartrac box which uses the oem throttle pedal which i think should have enough play in it.

Do you use the oem throttle pedal or a grp4 style one?

Good luck with the carb rebuild!
