I'll be interested to hear what you think the breaking is like once she's back on 4 wheels.
Whats next?... :)
Thought I would give you an update on the braking now I have been for a few longer drives and had a chance to use the brakes in a little anger, on private roads of course!
Firstly I am pretty happy with them! I still have to find the right bias with them and I think they need bleeding again as there is an ever so slight amount of air in the driver’s side line I think but they are very good in my novice opinion.
Compared with the AP’s, the Hispec calipers and rotors are not as precise in manufacture with the pad and disc alignment being ever so slightly out on the HiSpec kits. This I think can be corrected if you are talented enough and that anal about things being micromillimêtre perfect. But for me and as a daily driver I’m not that concerned and quite honestly given the price difference I expected more shoddy workmanship from the HiSpecs and that just hasn’t been the case.
I have used the same pad material in both calipers,Ferodo DS2500 and found them to be ideal for my daily driving. Good bite from the start and capable of a bit of thrashing although really haven’t got the HiSpec’s hot hot yet but will comment further when I have done so.
With the AP’s there was more chatter, a bit disconcerting to the passengers I had. The HiSpecs have no chatter so far. Both squeal like a b!tchi Hard to tell them apart, with either you wanted to coast into some traffic lights on main strips for fear that you might hurt some babies ears! ... and then you accelerate away from the lights and burst their eardrums anyway...
Fitting both was pretty simple, I bought GRP4 Fabrications AP CP4567 kit and the HiSpecs from Burton Power.
I will say that with the AP’s if you really stomped on them from speed it often felt like the whole front of the car was going to rotate under the car and you were going to need to pick up the crossmember and front strut from up the street where you had just been, such was the capability. The HiSpecs are not quite there but they are not far off and the hassle saved with maintenance (and legality issues) with the AP’s and the cost I think the HiSpecs are well worth it so far! Now I just need to buy myself some Wilwoods and write a full comparison!
Will update as required with any longevity issues or anything that is different to the above.
Lastly, curse you for asking what’s next, no sooner is she back on the road and driving up to speed and it becomes obvious the steering rack needs some attention and the diff has developed a whine!
