Hi All.

I have updated the original post as the machine shop could not guarantee availability of my original alloy material. I will now be manufacturing from 8mm steel plate and the price altered accordingly. This does not effect the basic application.

I apologise to those who have already shown interest in the original item.

Hi paul im very interested in this setup put me down for a set if you can get enough interest

question though.. would we still have to cut down an old set of the drum backing plates to make the spacer for the axles flange to housing?? or can we ditch that altogether and simply bolt the caliper bracket on and put the disk over the axle bolt it all on and enjoy

Hi Matt.

Good question - I have looked at this also and I have not come to a conclusion as yet.

Does the thickness of the drum brake plate impact on the bearing and is it still required? From a common sense point of view I would say yes as it would have been engineered to allow for the backing plate to be sandwiched between the housing and retainer.

Any other opinions?

thats what i was thinking as well is probably would be best to retain the backing plate as that would keep the bearing and depth of the axle 'factory' as well.

Just consulted an engineer at work and he suggests to retain the backing plate thickness. I had thought of getting a new shim laser cut to suit but I was struggling to justify the additional cost considering there's a redundant backing plate available to modify.

Is it worth the additional $20(est)?

I used 4 washers (1 on each retainer bolt) to take up the space of the backing plate and ditched the plate.

hehe even easier! why are the sinmple things always the last things i think of! 4 x washers = gold!

The workshop has the drawings and will begin cutting soon.

I will contact the interested parties once I have them.

For clarification this is a model of the shim provided to replace the redundant drum brake backing plate as discussed earlier.

I did Hendo's trick 4x washers works fine, or you can save the drum backplate and cut the shape of the axle flange from it,but thats hard work !
