510pom, I wasn't personally attacking you, appologise if it came across that way. I was only pointing out the fact that lowering the steering rack is NOT recommended and the fact the tail shaft angles ARE important to yours and other road uses safety if and when something goes wrong. But I would expect you to defend your cross member that you have sold to Shea and others, and that's fine. Again, I'm not bagging it. Just pointing out facts.
In saying that, I would like to clarify a few things in your reply.

through police and traffic inspections i would think it cant be that bad as they are pretty strict in qld
Traffic and Police inspections are highly unlikely to pick up tail shaft angles now are they?? And while QLD modification laws are strict yes, they're not as strict as other states. I know of a few cars that could not be registered in VIC and NSW, being sold and now registered in QLD.

all that with over 400hp @ the wheels you would think some problem would of showed up over the 8 years of the conversion
Consider yourself very lucky. Let's hope your luck doesn't run out.
quote:
every one who has a sr in the Escorts have spaced the x member down lowered the rack
Evryone?? So you know everyone who has installed a SR20 into an Escort? You are wrong. Not everyone. Don't assume. I have personally seen it done "properly" and they did not have lowered racks, spaced cross member, ect. The sump was modified and cross member and rack remained in factory positions. And as in the first pic of the steering column fouling on the engine, that cast bit is about 75mm lower than the column when a SR20 is installed "properly" into an Escort.
quote:
and unless you own a escort with modded mounts for a sr you would have no clue
Ooookay. Since I don't own a Escort with a SR20 I have no clue.. rightio.[8~2]

eccept for text thats written in a book or on the net which you cannot always take as fact[:o)]!!!!!
So books, articles, advise from experts, ect on modifications, be it on the net or other, are all bullsh!t?? Rightio.
In saying all that, your engineer has approved the modifications so it must be ok.
