hey guys, finally saved enough coin to buy an sr20 (apprentice rates = gay)

ive got her sitting in the bay, i bought a xmember off of 510pom, and it fitted straight in.
ive noticed the steering column fowls on a cast of the motor which appears to be unused. see pic,
i read somewhere that people cut it off but want to double check incase its something i will later need to bolt to.

thanks

Cut it off. It is not required. You can take it back by about 15mm.

hey josh, i bought a xmember off of andrew kemmery from here on the forum, a little while a go he was selling the last one for half what i paid, you should see if hes still got it as these are great, motor drops straight in no hassles.

i haven't yet fitted the seats because i am waiting to have the motor and box bolted in so i can set the angle of the seats accordingly

Going by the photos, the engine seems too high, specially at the front. This means your gearbox to tail shaft to diff angles will be incorrect if the tunnel and floor are not modified extensively.

The "510 pom" crossmember loweres the steering rack if I'm not mistaken. NEVER lower the steering rack on a street driven, lowered Escort. The reasons have been covered before on this forumas as to why. The Works Escorts had a lowered rack crossmember because they had "raised" suspension, and so steering rack angles remained the same.

Have a good read of the following links. A little bit of info on the often overlooked (and potentially deadly) incorrectly aligned/installed tail shaft when doing an engine conversion.
