Can anyone tell me how to remove the bushes/ bearings in a V6 distributor and if you can buy new ones. My white Capri smashed its housing when the advance weight fell off. I have another one now thanks to JR but it's got play. My original is good but would need to swap them over. I have had it sitting our freezer for three weeks to prepare for the swap but now the misses wants the space back. Help

Maybe a local auto electrician may be able to swap the bearing /bush over.

When I pulled my distributor out years ago to rebuild the engine I also had to change to oil pump shaft and distributor gear due to wear.

This should fix the problem Wiggy, then you can get on with fixing the distributor.

ok..........do we assume frozen dizzy in fridge helps loosen bushes so easier to extract ?

........they didnt teach me this one at Metallurgy Class............. or I was not paying attention more likely !

Well all but water shrinks when it's frozen and expands when it's hot. So it's the start of removal. The parts catalogue says you need a new housing but I'm sure someone here did it. Albeit without a freezer.

I'd contact a local distributor expert, I assume that once you remove the drive gear, the internal bushes/bearings press out, there may be a trick an expert knows

These guys overhauled mine many years ago and converted it to pointless at the same time.  They had the old school machine that allows them to set the mech advance springs.  They are in WA  http://www.schultzautomotive.com.au/

Is the fridge trick freezing the dizzy in a container of water that becomes ice.................or is dizzy in freezer dry and relying on alloy body expanding greater than bushes to help extract them easier ?

It's in there dry relying on everything shrinking for easier removal.
