hi all,
new to the site, but looking for a bit of info/ help. i have a mk 2 capri and looking at doing a engine conversion, v8 maybe if can find correct one. v6 from explorer would be interesting as im aware they have same bolt pattern as the older v6 out of capris,grandas etc.
but what i was thinking about was fitting a straight 6 out of a falcon into the car. 
i am aware that the lenght of the engine will be a issue, but i cant seam to find any info about the overall dementions of these engines. does anyone know if one would fit (without cutting into the firewall or front end to much) what other sort of problems mite i run into.
any help would be great.

There is a capri that was fitted with a late model XR6 turbo falcon motor. Looks like he had to recess the firewall a bit. Not sure who owns it but I'm sure someone here knows them.

the exploder v6 - youll need the cologne x member, 1 of the mounts will bolt straight up - the other (pass side I think) youll have to make. See my thread on  the "BOA Cosworth" for the gearbox arrangement (T5) or use a cologne bellhousing off Burton Power. Id go with the earlier OHV  version

The old "log head" straight 6 from XR-XB used to an occasionally seen conversion.  The Crossflow 6's are bit big.  I have seen a few Holden Red 6 cylinder conversions too, not my thing but whatever.

The V6 Explorer also came out in a manual version with a Mazda M50D 5 speed transmission although with a transfer as I am pretty sure no 2WD explorers were sold in Australia.
 
That transmission is also also listed as being in the Mazda BT50 so a check could be made as to the comparability of using the 2WD BT50's extension housing and perhaps output shaft on the explorer box. This would give you a 4L V6 and suitable 5 speed transmission. There was a manual Explorer for sale near me for $300 minus the transfer case, a couple of months ago so they are not expensive.

I would never do such a thing to a genuine collectable that is in original un-molested un-modified condition.
 However, if yours is not as above, and the original Power Plant is not available, or too expensive, then yes, a Falcon 6 with its tranny is an economical "transplant". I would try to find a XW to XB "log-head"engine as GTV6capri suggests to keep some semblance of     "period-right appearance your worship" !   ...................plus another beautiful Mk1 Capri is back on our roads showing the world what a great model this is...........no ECU to give trouble, no VSC to give trouble, no EFI to give trouble, no BCM to give trouble, no inferior wheel bearings to give trouble, no inferior PCV system to give trouble, etc etc.
 
When I drive my XY 351, my XC 5.8, AP5 Slant6, my 1986 TMC Crown, my EH Prem, and my V6 Capri, I always ask myself how lucky am I for not abandoning these beautiful old cars JUST to be "COOL" or "Keep Up with the JONES'S" by buying a modern car.  In contradiction, we bought a 2001 TMC Prado brand new, for the Lady of the House, and 16 years later it hasn't blown so much as a fuse or globe or anything else..................Toyota seem to know how to build "perfection" ............

thanks for you replys fellas, yes my car is in a state of rebuild, the standand 2.0l is dead. wanting to upgrade it, but finding a correct v6 is pretty hard, so hence the idea of a falcon motor, agree would be nice to have a period semi correct powerplant but really come down to budget abit, dont really want to go chopping or modifing the firewall if can avoid it,  i do like the idea of v6 explorer with 5 speed. may need to go back and think about it. 

Hate to say running a non Ford power plant , but put a Chevrolet LS engine in, Cheap and produce power.
