Great initiative. Ive been keen to see a register for a while now. Ive got 3 V6 Mk1's and would be happy to add them to the register.

I think verification of information will be a sticky topic i.e. do you need to get your info verified to maximise data integrity or do you rely on user honesty and accuracy?

I think youre right Whooligan. Simple is best. Realistically, only a small percentage of inaccuracy etc is likely to occur. If the system is overly structured participation wont be high and we wont get the best possible picture of how many cars are still in existance.
I would like to see factory options included also for those who have been able to confirm via Ford or otherwise what options their car was ordered with.

That's pretty close to what I had in mind Glenn.

I'd be interested in the register showing a picture of the compliance plate, where that was possible, or include the additional details of what suspension pack the car has.

It would also be of interest to list the number stamped on the passenger shock tower, which I suspect may be a 'Capri specific' production sequence number for each year of production.

Cheers
Jamie

whooligan,
That's the level of detail I would be interested in supporting for a basic Register.
And is 'sufficient for purpose'.
To mention an IT phrase - KISS - Keep It Simple , Stupid !
Less problems and issues that way, nothing private or likely to lead to legal issues.

I have 4 manuals and an auto - it would be good to see all of the v6 gt's - if only in pics. So many of the colours that weren't liked and had been re-sprayed ( ie mustard and metallic green) are now welcomed back to their original livery. The aust delivered colour scheme was the best - better than the GTXLR.

AS a thought "outside the box", maybe FoMoCo Aust should be asked if they would run a "Register" for ALL models where interest is shown, which could be on their Website for all to see after they "register". Their IT Staff might know more about privacy & "security", maybe?
With Ford manufacturing pulling out of our country, they might want to earn "brownie points" to foster good will since they will be importing so many world-wide made Ford products into Oz.
If anyone here knows anyone at Ford, maybe they could ask.
I agree with others who suggest that a Photo and Chassis number is all that should be mandated (with the addition of engine number which will prove if orig eng is still in its orig chassis, which is a strong point I love about Capris and Falcons!).......... Are Escorts and Cortinas the same ?

I doubt that Ford would be interested in a register, as they are very protective in giving out information unless you can prove ownership of a particular vehicle. Besides, from my understanding, many records of CKD builds of Capri's, Escorts and Cortina's at their Homebush plant in Sydney were extremely hard to find, according to ex-Ford archivist the late Adrian Ryan who I ahd dealings with back in the early/mid 2000s. That being said, some folk have had success in this endeavour.
On the later Capri's, the chassis number is also the engine number, eg. CK17ME12345, from around mid-1971 I think. Prior to this, the engine number was a 2 letter, 4 digit, 1 letter number, eg. JE1234P, different to the chassis or identification number. And yes, Escorts and Cortinas are the same however they are in much, much greater numbers than the Capri's of which there were less than 15,000 assembled in Australia.
In the USA, a guy named Kevin Marti has authorised access to a huge range of Ford/Lincoln/Mercury records and can give you a complete breakdown of the build of a vehicle as well as a price sheet when it was sold. See attached examples of my Mercury Capri. If only we could get this sought of information for our Capri's!!

Thanks for the info Terry..............very informative, esp the info that late Mk1 were the only ones to have common Eng no to the Body no, that the early ones didn't have.
Two years ago, Ford Melbourne sent me 3 letters of Authenticity for my 72 GTV6(left), plus my XY and my XC, when I asked for them. I had to supply proof of current ownership of all 3 of course.

It's a fact of life, I'm sorry to say, that even tho 100% of all members here may have the best intentions and would never even dream of doing the wrong thing to another member, or to his/her car/s, there exists an evil element out there in the communities, that know of "nerds" that can hack into the most secure website, let alone ours, and trace the location of any car they have on their "shopping list".........and for those with garages like "Fort Knox", they wait till they see you drive down the road to refuel or stop at the shop, and then do whatever they want.

Not trying to scare anyone; just a timely 'HEADS UP' to be alert and vigilant with locking your car even if it's for a minute; these b****s only need a few seconds.   Park/shop where there are crowds/witnesses. Don't be complacent when touring with other members during "Club Days" and "Car Shows".
It's sad/distressing to me, and I assume any Car Enthusiast like us, to see frequent reports of Beautiful cars that the owner spent a fortune in time and money on, just to have it stolen without a trace.
It happened to me about 20 years ago with a 1961 Consul Cortina that was a one owner in great condition. I still pine for that car and think of it every week.

Keep safe everyone.

You're right Glen.
I don't think everyone who owns a Mk1 Capri, let alone a GTV6Mk1, appreciates exactly how rare they are becoming by the year.  This sentiment also applies to all Makes and Models of Aussie built cars of course.
We should keep in mind their true and increasing worth: none of these Pieces of History have ever "grown on trees", but the opposite; they are being snapped up by cashed up Yuppies, as well as genuine collectors WORLD WIDE.
Don't forget why the UK, Scotland and Canada are snapping them up; all theirs have died of natural causes and/or rusted away due to the squillion tons of SALT they put on their roads regularly, to suppress ice forming from all the snow that falls on their streets and highways.

What a "buzz" it is to drive a well maintained rare 60's and 70's collectable all around Melbourne and Penisulas and
Dandenongs......preferably on sunny, rain-free days of course!
