Cheers guys yeah being a 4 door was 2 reasonsm first i got given the car for free and it is straight and totally rust free! and second yeah the access to the rear for putting in a cage and other parts made it so much easier than a coupe

In the latest edition of Classic Ford magazine, there is a little one page blurb on Unitary Construction, and at the very end they say:

"The roof is a major factor in gaining rigidity, as are the A-, B-, and C-pillars that attach it to the bodywork. It's for this reason that people reckon that a four door Escort is stiffer than a two door - the B- and C-pillars are much thicker."

True or not, you can always pretend it is and tell people that if need be!

Cheers Shea, the 2.0lt i have at the moment is standard, but the 'good' motor ill be finishing afetr the car car is, has forged pistons (20 thou over size), balanced crank, lightened flywheel, decently opened up head with double valve springs, rally kent cam, 45 webbers, adjustable cam wheel all the good bits, also i just picked up a straight cut quaife 5 speed for $1200 on sat so that's going in as well!
