I'm just wondering if anyone can give me advice on tyre size etc. for my 13" x 7.5" steelies. 

I went to bob janes and the bloke said he'd order some in and I could see how they looked... after he fitted one up and I said I'd like to go away and think about it he gave me the whole guilt trip along the lines of all the freight he's paid to get the tyres there, now hes stuck with a set of tyres he won't sell, spent the time fitting these for you... I guess i'm also after a tyre mob that will respect the process?

With these tyres i'm exactly where I would be if I kept the 15" rims with lower profiles on.... The bloke at bob janes said what I want can't be done...

p.s. The whitewalls aren't crucial just thought it goes nice with the matte black rims 

What tyres did you get?
There are plenty of web sites that offer pictures of 'stretched' tyres on rims, although different brands have slightly differing fitment.
 
I think you'll find the ones in the pic are 175/50/13's

Are your wheels 13" or 15"? The car drifting are 13".
The tyres are most likely 185/50/13's stretched. 
 
 

Hey guys sorry i didn't specify, the rims that i have are 13"... i think that what he gave me there were 205's...
 
So the tyres are definitely stretched?

i reckon you will have to get some in 175/50 x 13 sent in from the UK

205's on a 7.5" rim is not too much of a stretch... I had a set of 205/60/13s on a set of 8" rims and they were a bitch to get on and effectively look like an F1 rim in the end, but essentially the same width as the rim.  What the Poms do is use tyres that are too small (ie actually smaller than the rim width - ie 175 tyres which are 7" on a 7.5" rim) and get them stretched onto the wider rims - usually by a specialist tyre place from what I have read in a couple of the Pommy Classic Ford Mags... 
 
Not sure it is legal in Australia (pretty sure there are actually regulations that govern what sizes are suitable for what rim size...), and definitely not recommended as if the bead comes loose, it will instantly deflate.  If you have a look on some tyre websites you will see what tyres are recommended for what rim sizes.....

I'm not meaning to hijack the thread, but I've never understood why the Brits do this.  Any idea what the attraction is?

its not just the poms obsessed with stretch fitting, look at a car meet with modified imports, EVERY car has stretch fitted tyres. theres 2 theories ive heard of. 1 is that it looks cool, the other is that when drifting, the sidewall doesnt roll over as much, and its easier to get sideways. oh theres a third, when you want your car excessively low.
my honest opinion, i like my 205/60/13's, because big rubber is PHAT.

Tyre stretching came about due to a number of things. Firstly, to get as much dish under the guard as possibly whilst still maintaining tyre clearance. Secondly, drifting, less wall, less flex, less traction, more response, easier drifting. And thirdly, the look and bragging rights amongst import drivers etc.

You can get 175/50/r13's here locally. There are a few on this forum that run them. Places like Motorsport Tyres her in Vic stock them or can get them in.
