basically paul dunstan is running the same gearbox as me, hoping to score some measurements off him so i can get one fabricated, this will allow me to skip a whole chapter of the build as i was going to have to dummy fit the engine, line up, measure, fabricate, remove, paint, replace.

i am hoping to be able to paint, fabricate, fit. sounds easy enough on paper!

its been hard finding time to work on my car as i work wierd hours, 3am with an angle grinder makes your neighbours pretty pissed! [:p]

Isn't it dangerous having an amplifier (notoriously famous for sparking potential) so close to a LPG tank?

If it does go BOOM one day... I'm going to say "I told you so"

Common misconceptions about gas tanks. The tanks don't go boom. If there is a spark in your boot then it is more likely for your fuel system (which has no safeguards) to go boom first. Hitting a gas tank in an accident will not make it go boom either. If you sever the gas line it will emit gas at a rapid rate that may catch fire. It will not explode. Just thought I had better clear that up. [:x)]

Craig.

Not alot has changed visually but i've been focusing on the engine side of things lately. have just bought from another forum member a fuel and ignition ECU with hand controller, purchased a stage 4 watson fast road cam and double valve springs and have lined up a sierra manifold. my friend also has an XF tb and i am still deciding if its worth hacking my manifold for whatever power increase / throttle response.

i've bought some bling up goods which include autometer guages and chrome cam cover, also got myself an engine stand and a creeper.

i've been trying to find a paint shop to get into for some touch ups but everyones heaps busy atm including me.. when i get time i'll take the bay back to bare metal, etch prime then hit it with some 2 pak primer ready for fresh paint at the shop.

the reason i am taking the paint back to metal in the bay is because the guys that painted the car (previous owner) did a strange thing, they painted the car in 2pac and the bay in acrylic. i say this because i can see where brake fluid has spilled its stripped the paint, that only happens to acrylic.... wierd

Argh

What rear end is in it as it's got a 5 stud pattern on the rear but 4 on the front?

If anything, some will paint the engine bay in 2pac for durability and shine right off the gun. They may use acrylic on the exterior as it was once viewed as the only way to get a "show" finish with a lot of colour sanding between many top coats etc. I doubt the practice is done much these days with EPA restrictions and the labour intensity of acrylic.

hmmm. well i had a Tom from Mt Pleasant Crash have a look at it and he reckons that the bay is in acrylic, he does a top job and also puts holes in wallet's, quoted me 5 grand for the paint repairs (as i said he does a top job [:0])

IF he is wrong then it was down to poor preperation from the previous painters. i have noticed crappy prep on the bonnet too, a few humidity bubbles and theres a bit of shrinking on the 1/4 panel thats getting repaired. its amazing what you find when you look hard, i most certainly dont look forward to finding out what's underneath [V].. either way it has to go back to metal.
oh and i know the exterior is definately in 2 pac.

Paul, Hilux LSD mate 4.11 ratio i think. i might put disks on it - i want to find out how good the drums are first. i'm sending the axels down to "Rod-Tech" to get them studded back to the Escort pcd.

for any of you interested the specs of my cam are as follows;

STAGE 4 CORTINA O.H.C.
35-75/74-41
Valve Lift .450"
Duration at .050" - 231o and 239o
Tappets .010" and .017"
