"I will look into getting them machined and then see how I go."

Which part of the wheel are you planning on machining?

Hi Peter, I'm not sure how they do it. There is a joint not far from work that I'll pop in and have a chat.

Do you have any experience with this?

Cheers

I've got a spare mk1 cortina diff here with machined axles to suit Alfa discs if you want to try out for width.

Narrower than the escort. I'm running one with discs and 8.5" rims under standard but rolled arches.

Shaun.

Hi Shaun,

That will rock.

I'll be in touch

I learnt the mk1 Cortina diff in escort trick from Ian Harwood in the uk where he rallied a mk1 escort In the early 70s using a Cortina diff back then ! I done it on a mk1 escort which had 7x13 jellybeans and 185/65 tyres without any scrapes . If ur running turret boxes , there could be a clearance problem with the upright shock. You will need to buy or make spring platforms for the diff as the Cortina ones are in the wrong place.

Just concerned that might not be a good idea to machine material from the wheel.

Thanks for the input Marty.

Peter - Yes, I am very mindful of weakening the wheel.  No harm in having a chat though.

I had 5mm machined off the back of the mounting wheel centre on 13x7 hotwires years ago & no problems.
The inner face of the wheel centre still protrudes proud of the wheel 'webs' or 'spokes'
so there is no loss of strength. I wouldn't have considered it if the 'spokes' had been touched at all.

Cheers
