Hi all,

I have recently bought a XR6 Turbo Falcon from a Ford Dealership in Brisbane and after a couple months of ownership I think that I have decided that it is not for me.

Does anyone know if used car warranty is transferrable if I was to sell the car privately? I am guessing that the dealer will have some escape clause to get out of it if the car is sold, but I haven't picked up on it.

Just figured that it would be a selling point if I do decide to unload the car.

Cheers,

Damion

Hi Damion, the 3 months/5000km statuatory warranty stays with the car but the extended warranty is typically not transferable.
Cheers,Phil.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I just had a closer read of the contract and my warranty is not transferable.

Gdub, you are correct. I sent the car back due to a minor known turbo falcon issue -exhaust leak between the turbo and manifold when the car is cold. They told me that the issue was a normal BA/BF falcon characteristic and nothing can be done about it. I have tried to argue with them, but no dice.. it doesn't look like a fun job to remove the manifold to get to the turbo bolts either.

I am tempted to take the matter further just due to the way I was treated.

Cheers,

Damion

What don't you like about your XR6 Turbo, I had one and must say it was one of the best cars I have owned/driven.  I regret selling it, but only did so for family reasons and getting a territory which was more suited to have 3 kids under 2.

I don't mind the car, I just feel that my money could be spent better elsewhere. I may hang on to it yet.

Whooligan, I guess it depends on the dealer. The mob I bought my car from are no good. They change the story every time I speak with them, don't return my calls etc. When I take the time to go in they are nice to my face and agree with me and the cycle starts again. It's a simple problem with a reasonably easy fix.. I just don't feel that it is something I should fix when I have paid extra for a car with warranty.

I spoke with one of their mechanics last night and he told me the noise wasn't actually leak it was the way the turbo sounds when it is cold!!! I was able to convince him that I wasn't stupid and he went on to tell me that it is very common for these cars and that they cannot do anything about it..

As far as I am concerned there are two options, reface the flange faces as they have been damaged through the leakage path or fit a soft metal gasket!

Anyway, I tend to get over excited about these things.
