Hi Guys
I just took my car for relicensing and they said I need a permit for the extractors, but I thought they were fitted from factory on the v6.  Does anyone know if they were standard or not, and if standard, any documentation I can show them.
Thanks

I was just going to suggest the workshop manual. If you know someone who has one, borrow it for your next visit. I think you can still buy one from your Ford dealer, but they are reprints and poor quality (think old photocopier).

They weren’t called extractors, simply exhaust manifolds. One of the scans that accapmad has sent may have the factory description from the manual.

”A free-flow two-branch exhaust manifold fabricated from welded steel tubes is used for each bank of cylinders, and is secured to the cylinder head by bolts through steel flanges welded to the pipe ends on the outside of the V. Each manifold has seperate pipes of equal length for each cylinder, and these are joined together at a junction box to form a common outlet. A cast flange, for connection to the exhaust system, is held captive by the flared end of the common outlet.”

Thank you!!  I was looking in section 6.2 exhaust system so didn't see the pic in sect 6.1.  The red parts manual has a pic but it's the V4 labelled as 3000cc.  One item I can cross off their list.

...........another amazing fact of the Mk1 GTV6 !  ..............I've been a mechanic all my life, and know of NO OTHER mass produced vehicle even close to this "Price Bracket" that ever came out standard with Extractors, in lieu of heavy Cast Iron Headers as seen on every car ever made (I repeat: in this "Price Bracket" lest howls of indignation should ensue for expensive Sports Cars!)
You really have to wonder what Ford was thinking as to why only the famous GTHO PIII was endowed with Extractors when the basic GT with 4V heads would have performed so much more with them.   Maybe just as well, as they would have succumbed to el-cheapo versions as they did on the Capri GTV6 for the sake of the almighty dollar.
I've been told on many occasions that the factory Extractors on the GTV6 were so flimsy, they barely made it past the 12 month factory warranty !

Hi Cosworth. Your quote must have been meant for the V4, as it mentions    two-branch exhaust manifold

Awesome now I can take both books.  I didn't even think to check the manifolds section, stopped at exhaust and engine.  I didn't know a preheat intake was added in 72.  One was in the boot of this car which is a 70, I thought it was just junk from one of his other cars.  Parts book section 60 page 5 is for mounts but shows the whole V4 engine labelled as 3000cc.

Thanks again everyone.

There are a few typos/errors where a V4 part is shown or described in the V6 manual, but I just put that down to human error.

Let us know how you go.

Cheers

Looks like you've got the info you're after, good people on here.
Are you dealing direct with the W.A. DOT pits? If so you have my sympathy. These guys are inconsistent at best, I've been over a few times and they've never failed me for my after market headers but instead for a missing drain rubber in the boot. I removed it so it would drain
Alot of these guys were mechanics once upon a time but were re-deployed from the bus service when it was privatised, they have no drive or passion. You are right to question them but sometimes playing along with a 'yes sir, no sir' attitude can be an easier option.
Hope it goes your way. Drew.
