Have had this car for a year and a bit and have only just got a chance to start on it. Bought it for my wife to go club racing in as she enjoyed racing my supercharged Mk1 at wakefield but is the opposite of most girls and has a faily aggressive driving style and i'm not gonna be ok if she crashed my car and besides I felt it was a good idea for her to have a full roll cage.

Put the word out that I needed a MK1 2 Door to use as a race car and my mate found me this car, a friend started it from a shell that had previously had a capri v6 in it and SLR flares and bobtail, he installed the cage and got the car a bit straighter, cut the front out, fitted a bigger radiator and 4AGZE less the supercharger and added a turbo all this with the intention doing Targa Tasmainia he got it running took it for a drive on a dirt road shat himself and then decided to go Falcon Sedan racing like what you see on speedweek but using EA-ED Falcons.... The car sat in and open shed and rats made it a home for 12 months until I came along.

So what's the plan ? Well I originally planned to use my old supercharged motor with su carb but its still going strong so im gonna put off building the new engine a little longer, so then I thought about using a 4AGE again Al the bloke I bought the car from wanted the motor and box back we ripped it out and I found another 4AGE but finding a box proved difficult, joined the toymods forum to find someone with the right bits and it turned out its not such a nice forum and eventually gave up trying to get membership there ! So a few months more and then I spoke to a bloke who knew another bloke with a WW Stromberg carb that had been modified to take adjustable jets I wanted this to replace the side draft weber that I had on my RS after it running pretty bad and being quoted $500 to get it tuned ! cut a long story short I got the carb and his old speedway motor that had done half a meeting for what the carb was worth ! That brings me to now.

OK spent some quality time in the shed today and cut a few things out to lighten the car up, being that its a club car and will be running in sports sedan we are allowed to take the dash out and make some other modifications. See below;

Bottom of B Pillar normally would'nt take this bit out but with the re-inforcement at the base of the pillar back into the cage this wont be a problem.

Top of C Pillar there is more to come out of this area yet but need to get a 40mm and 30mm hole saw before I can finish it

All the bits that I removed today, including the bracing from the bonnet, we have weighed a fibreglass bonnet and a single skin steel bonnet and there is very little weight advantage, so I'll keep my cash and stick with the steel one.

Excellent work so far . Is the cage a Bond cage ? and is it the basic six point or did you order extra bars ?

BLOWNMK12L
Not a Bond cage its a custom cage the previous owner made up in consultation with our local Cams/Andra steward so its all cosher there are side intrusion bars to be welded in also but they will be last just before paint.

Another update, I have been attacking the car with a hole saw removing material here and there and saving some weight along the way, I just keep putting all the bits I remove in a box and I'll weigh it at the end. Today I removed the front suspension assembly, I am waiting for my 2 coil over kits to arrive and 1 set is going into this car so thought id better get it ready, if all goes well next Saturday I should have or be on the way to completing the following mods to the below assembly;

Coil over front struts modified and gusseted
VN Commodore rear calipers fitted to front struts (will fit on standard MK2 2L Discs and have a larger pad area)
Anti-Dive BOX with caster adjustment
Nolathane bushes fitted
Adjustable TCA'sPhoto Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Oh and another update, picked up a couple of alloy bits for the engine that I had polished by the local chrome guy, came up much better than I could manage using a mop wheel on the end of a drill, so can now finish building the engine.

Ok have had a direction change on the brakes got some vented discs that have been adapted on MK2 Corty hubs that will go straight on ! including much bigger single piston alloy girling calipers that have about double the pad area ! I was talking to my mate that got me the corty and he mentioned that these were in the boot ! went out to the farm and voila ! Also pulled the front suspension down and seperated out the cross member so I can replace it with a standard one as apposed to the one that was fitted and modified dropping the rack down for the 4age.

Did a bit today plan is to have it done by august, for a local race will make 3 Escorts racing that day !

So we have all but finished the engine and there is a bit of bling about it, chrome or alloy pulleys ! awesome black paint job, gonna run with twin 2" SU's on upswept manifold, all polished again. Ramtubes. Can't wait to hear this thing ....

I have a set of TCA's and the dive boxes are almost done. So just have to get some more coil over springs again and mate is making me a set of coil overs ! Awesome.

So today we set about removing the wiring, we are doing a custom loom with just the bare essentials, we also stripped the paint from the engine bay and mounted the front on the engine stand just to move it around worked ok.
Stripped Bay now for the wheel

Putting the engine stand to good use

D/S Strut Top Cleaner

P/S Strut top ! Stripped

Next week will be spent getting the engine bay spotless so we can paint it and do some welding/modifications adding more cage and making more space for the engine, would like to move it back a little in the future.

Plus finish the rear suspension just gonna use stocko locker diff and top links welded into the boxes for the 4-link just to get it going back there, will also be adding a panhard. Just lots of welding.
