RS CUSTOM
Hi Guys , just joined this forum and have recently bought a 2door RS from VIC with plans to restore , gonna need a few parts to kick it off so would appreciate any local leads for parts ,
my first rs was a S1 i bought in  1974 , i was in the UK then , i traded it in for a new RS2000 CUSTOM in 1978/9 from a dealer in guildford  , brought it back to the isle of wight and was the proud owner of the only custom on the island ,
cheers Tony.....

Thanks Matt , will post some pics soon , going to first replace the usual suspension rubbers and steer rack warn parts and register the RS ,
it is suprisingly in good condition and complete with minimal cost to get it roadworthy ,the previous owner owned it for twenty years so had maintained it fairly well ,
cheers Tony....

I have sourced control arms, bushes and 2.9 rack amoungst other parts from forum advertiser SMCKA and have been very happy with price, quality and service.

Try forum member Peter M for concours quality reproduction of the usually irreplaceable persished rubber parts - firewall grommets, bonnet stops, rear spoiler, etc

Cheers

This forum is a great place to find the bits you need. Goodluck.

Yes, retrofit kits available - however the AUS RS2k used the rear sway bar as tramp bar/radius rod/track rod.

MANY here will say tramp bars lock up the suspension and are the devils work and that the genuine rear sway bar is poison and should be removed.

In my experience with street driven MK2's I have found that at 14mm the bar has minimal impact on controlling body roll, but is effective in performing a tramp bar/raduis rod function. The key to making the genuine swaybar work effectively is the correct set up of length from diff mount to chassis mount - numbers by the genuine ford manual have been the most effective, the do provide a level of preload on the rubber bushes. If using poly bushes I like to add 5-10mm to allow for less compression and maintain orgiginal levels of preload tension.

Of note in the FIA 5566 homogolation papers the AUS rear sway bar is identified as "sway bar/radius rod" so the intent of the Ford engineering is quite clear.....

Rear bar settings if you decide to keep it;

Excerpt from 5566 introducing Australian assembled car homogolising flat front RS2000 and introducing rear anitroll bar/radius arm - of note this is the 2 litre Rally Pack and was a factory option and not a stand alone model
