hello guys,

well as some may know i have a mk2 4 door with a sr20det.

well ive been going through the process of getting it engineered and regod in sa.   yeasterday i had an ID check done on it and it all turned to S**t
there were "inconsistencies" in the inspection and the car has been seized pending a police investigation.  i have no information as to what the issue is but i can only guess its either . engine number has an issue/history ( i put a newer engine in that i was told had just arrived from japan, but i have no proof, so that very well may be the issue)
                                                                            . chassis number has issue/history
. car is stolen or wanted ect

i am trying to find out as much info on the history of the car so i can help if need be. i just want the car back safe and sound.

here is what i know and have found so far
car was engineered in tasmania. last had rego in 2006ish
went to victoria and thats where i bought it.
i bought it off nizcort http://www.classic-ford.org/cfp/tm.aspx?m=44786 i have emailed him asking for more info (no reply yet)
the escort used to own to a A.J  i have called the number here http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2382188/1978-ford-escort/ but the number has changed hands
i also found this
http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=114424 but the poster of the thread was a guest and cant be contacted

the car was origionally owned by a gary bakes and the work was carried out at john walker automotive.

this is all i have so far. if anyone knows any more about this car could you contact me. not knowing what the issue is i am left wondering if i will even see the car again.

cheers

Have you tried contacting your state rego dept?  Here in Vic you can do a car history check to see if it is registered as stolen, or has finance registered against the car etc before buying it?

This may get you at least a reason as to why it was impounded.

Good luck

sounds like a bit of a pickle.

A little confused about the rego thing. You say it came over from tassie, and thats when you bought it?.

If so, were you the first to get it registered in victoria, or did someone else do that before you?. If it was you, was nothing picked up when you went to register it with vicroads?. If not, then i could only assume its not a chassis related thing?, giving support to your theory that its something to do with the engine.

Unfortunately it looks like the last login to this site for "nizcort" was September 2011, so im not backing your chances of getting a reply (unless he still has the same email he did back then and gets notification of a PM?).

Best of luck with it mate. Looks like a lovely car to own and must be very frustrating not having it.

thanks mate
Finally got some info today. "Engine number didn't appear to be original" so that could mean it's been re stamped or there is a number missing or something

I got told worst case I won't be able to register that engine in sa. Best case it'll be all cool. At least it sounds like I'll get my car back, although an investigation has yet to be launched so who knows when I'll see it again.

Feeling pretty stupid as I didn't check numbers when I got the engine, could be a costly mistake.

Cheers

Glad you've heard something. I hope it turns out ok and no more engine swaps are needed.

I feel sorry for you going through that.

Checking engine numbers isnt something I'd think about doing if I did a swap, dont feel too bad about not checking.
Really unfortunate that you have to go through that after you already swapped to another sr.

Good that you heard back from them though, got my fingers crossed it all turns out ok.
