Hi all.
Just getiing around to fitting the new camshaft which is a newman phase 4 and I am getting spring bind.
Has anyone fitted this cam and what components did you use?

Really? - no one?? 

You using single or double springs?  I've got doubles on a cam with lift a tad more than the Ph 4, and I've got no trouble.

No just single. They are a little thicker than stock but then there are less coils.
If I could ask.
Have you machined the spring seats down?
Are you using standard valve length?
Nothing special about your valve train?
 

I didn't have to machine my spring seats (or the valve retainers for that matter), and although the Group 1 sized valves may be a tad longer than stock, on assembly I found the valve geometry was spot on, at least according to the templates in Des Hammill's book.  I was expecting to have to try and tweak the valve length to get that right, but for once I got lucky (pity it wasn't Lotto).

Correction - I have a smidgeon LESS lift than the Phase 4 (sorry, I was looking at the wrong data sheet), but it is so little as to be of virtually no consequence.  I think Avon may be using the same cam as you though.

Probably what you should be doing is contacting them for the recommended spring rates and finding something that suits perfectly.  Looking at the specs it will want something decent (probably around 80lbs on the seat and 200lbs ish on the nose).
 
You may find a single to suit, or a double.  Either way as long as the rates are right. 
 
They will also need to be installed at the specified height, so you will need to check that.  And you will possible need to either machine the head, or use stepped retainers, and/or fit shims to get the correct spring height.
 
If you muck up any of the above you are going to have problems.
 
I have springs in stock, and stepped retainers and shims if you need

What cam r u using?

It's a Piper 285 cam from too long ago, and is not something I'd buy now given how much choice is available these days.
 

What shop do u have???

If you have stepped retainers how many mm's over stock will this gain me??
