If your dash is still dim after the LEDs going in, the trick I did was glue alfoil where the white is on the inside of gauges and housing. Works great on my mk1 RS2000 6 dial with those blue LEDs..

That's a disgrace Peter you must be having withdrawals!
My RS did sit idle from 2000 to 2008 under defect.
I must admit though we would occasionally take it for a fang around the neighbourhood after a few beers on events such as Christmas day!!
