Hey anyone who reads this, guessing not many, this is my 2 door project, painted by me so its nothing spectacular (still needs polishing).
The main reason i'm here is that i've lost direction and can't decide on it's motivation (engine).
So... ideas?
My only idea is to use the 2 litre from my old 4 door but have been having trouble finding a new sump for it.
Anyway, to the pictures...

I let my escort projects get bogged down too.. Try watching a few of the Mk2 road rally vids on utube, then think.. Hmm I have the beginnings of one of those in the shed. :D

Sump wise, I plan to get one done up like this. http://highenergy.com.au/index.php?module=Website&action=Text&content=1105536714703-7378

I am thinking about paying the lil bit extra to have one of my cortina sumps converted to a high vol escort sump.

Nice colour choice.

Just 1 thing though ... i cant understand why people paint engine bays without dropping the struts out first. Takes about 10 minutes and looks so much better than when they get painted like that.

Someone had done that on our RS, drove me mad!

Anyway back to your project, dont stop now you've done way too much work to not finish it!

Looks like a nice shell. Look in the showroom section, plenty of inspiration there.

What about a zetec? Plenty already posted here about how to fit one. Or if you have the stomach for it, something like an SR20?

Well i have spent way to much money and time on my project, yet it still doent look as good as yours(no paint) and it is still not on the road[:-(]
Finding or modifying a sump will be a lot easier than fitting a different engine. I would do that and once it is up and running, if then you wnat to change motors, then you will already have a bit more insparation and have drivin it a bit to enjoy what you have done so far.[%]

I've pretty much decided to go with the pinto for starters, even though it's a bit tired and down on compression on the 3rd cylinder.
As for the sump i reckon i'll have to try fix this one because i have no hope of finding a local replacement.

As for dropping the struts, the engine bay is painted with hammertone so when i start pulling the bits i need for it from the 4 door like the struts all i have to do is grab a brush and touch it up.

As for an engine conversion, the zetec has been rattling aroung in my head for quite a while, but a few things have put me against it.
1. All the conversion parts have to be shipped from england and aren't all sold by the one company
2. Tuning it after its in. I live in the very north-western part of Tasmania and the closest dyno is at least 300km's away, and i don't think that there are any good tuners in tassie.
3. I'm a first year apprentice, i just ordered a full rubber and seal kit that costs more than 2 weeks wages! so i'm a bit short on cash[V]
4. a little thing called drifting, heard of it? yeah i want to build a drifter and i'm trying to save for one, not easy when you already have a 4 wheeled money pit[88]

As for an SR20 i just don't think they suit the whole escort ideal, not in turbo form anyway. if i did go for a jap motor it'd be a 4AGE or an F20C or whatever it is from a honda S2000.

one of the bigger things thats slowing progress is that i'm going to have to butcher my 4 door for a lot of the parts and i can't really bring myself to do it, it was my first project and first car, so i'm quite fond of her lol
