At long last, WA appears to be on the verge of getting discounted rego for pre-1990 cars. Terms look pretty good from what I can tell (up to 90 days driving, including 30 days 'free' use, keep original plates, some mods OK). Now to find a nice, friendly and DoT approved club that caters to more than just old Fords (I've too many old cars) - suggestions welcome.

Recently I had an adjustment automatically made and a refund sent for one of my cars on a competition permit, not sure if it was the same thing?

Reading through this the main thing I'm dubious about is
 
 "allow clubs to tailor the requirements to suit their individual needs. For example, a vehicle owner will be required to give advance written notification regarding their personal vehicle use prior to carrying out their journey, but it is at the DoT approved motoring club’s discretion whether written acknowledgement is sent back to the vehicle owner"
 
To me it opens up a can of worms if you're pulled over and have no receipt for intention of use, could this lead to confiscation as per an unlicensed car?
 
I can't find any mention, yet, whether the vehicle needs to be inspected going onto and exiting the conditional license or under change of ownership.
I may sound cynical but I'll be keeping mine on full rego's for now

Yep - much to be revealed. I'm hoping it will work out though, as I have three eligible vehicles for which I still pay full rego.

Absolutely, lets hope they get it right.
Wonder if the WA Sporting car club will get involved, cheap rego, free access to the raceway and tuning/ track days

Yep lots of questions about having to advise your free used and what happens if on the day you deviate from the planed journey.  Nearly 15000 people signed a petition for $90 for 90 days and we get a proposal developed by a handful of car club committee members that's costs more, is more restrictive and has lots of unanswered questions.
 
Time will tell but I doubt it will have the desired effect.

Its up and running now.  Looks like pits inspection is not required to move in or out of the scheme which is good.

Yes the transfer on and off concession without an inspection is a bonus.
For those in the Northern suburbs these guys look like a good club.

$50 a year membership and pretty relaxed cars and coffee style meets once a month in Joondalup. Been to a few now and its a good atmosphere, not quite as formal and political as the one make clubs.

The multi make/manufacturer clubs are definitely the way to go.
The historic car club I am a member of has no idea of what a Ford Escort looks like.
Most cars, trucks and bikes are anything from WW1 to early 1960's.
I think they let me join because they realise over the next few years many of the members will need to hand in their licences due to age then the club will start shrinking.

Funny you mention that Peter. A Model T is high on my bucket list so I've been getting involved with the club for a while now.
Its sad that a generation of enthusiasts is fading. A few of the cars are sitting, not so much unloved but not needed with the families. They seem to be going for what I think is fairly cheaply 10-15k, to new, loving homes that will support the club.
