Hi Guys,
Looking for a bit of advice - again. I have recently had my RS2000 gearbox rebuilt and have had a lot of trouble with oil leaks. Today I have pulled the gearbox out for the third time as it seemed to be leaking profusely from the inspection cover on top of the case. The top of the lid was covered in oil and it seems to be coming from the small vent hole.
I removed the lid and found a full gasket with a small slot cut out in the centre. This gasket doesn’t seem factory and I have attached a picture of it and also a picture of a second gearbox I have which appears to be original and only has a gasket which fits around the outside of the case only.
I would welcome any information on which of these two options is correct and maybe why my gearbox is leaking so bad. I am thinking that the gasket just around the perimeter is correct and I maybe I should install this type of gasket and also weld on a fitting over the vent hole so I can run a vent tube up higher into the engine bay.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Best regards,
Paul
