Anybody know how to get to the speedo drive gear in a Type 9 (or even a Type E)? I'd like to see whether I can change it out for one that gives a more accurate reading.

Thanks.

Not sure where to get one locally but UK shops like Burton performance and Rally Design or Motorsport Tools UK. When I fitted a type 9 to my mk2 I noticed the Speedo was way too fast, doing 60kmh it was reading 75 ! I pulled the gear drive from a 2.0 Cortina and that got it close... In the end I gave up and just moved the needle down to minus 5kmh , so doing 60 to 90 was close but anything higher i was under speeded . The plan was to take the Speedo to get calibrated but never did !

the speedo drive gear is held in with a large circlip, the right sort of circlip pliers will remove it.  Try GBH Geartech in the UK, they sell all the parts, seals, bearings etc for gearboxes, Type 9 and 4 speeds.  I'm pretty sure they keep a range of speedo drives- you may have to supply some info about your box, wheel size etc to get the correct one. Found the cover - just have to remove it now. Not sure whether removing the cover destroys it in the process, but replacement covers are available at least.

I need to do this as well... My speedo is 20km fast at 100km/h. Let us know where you source yours from Flighter.
Found this exploded diagram which i always find helps before i pull something apart...

They're available on eBay UK, and also from Burton:

We were out about 20% too, but changed the diff ratio from 3.89 to 3.54 to pick up about 10%. I'm hoping we can make up the rest through a speedo gear change.
