I’d be looking at cam first, downdrafts can still be used to make some pretty good power. The way I see it is x number of horses can only bolt through the gate with standard cam but x+2 can get through if the gate is open a little longer or wider.

Not sure if that helps or if I’ve just confused the matter!

I have a good understanding of mods and what they change just a bit unsure when doing changes to an older car like the escort.

Evos were a bit easier in their path of mods / power.

Cam upgrade, an adjustable cam wheel, webers or EFI , and get the compression up there to nearly 11;1 , pintos respond very well to high compression. Ignition, if you must. I only ever used a Sierra/transit electric dizzy and recurved to 32deg I think it was . Exhaust to be 2.25in minimum with good dogleg mufflers ( no hotdogs, they sap power) . Webers do go out of sync often even with the Magard twin cable arrangement, you'll be a master of your carbs after a few thousand Ks, a piece of hose and a screwdriver each month to bring them back in line. Carb synchronizer tools are for lazy people lol 😆

Been a while since ive added anything here.

Since the boy is now in child care the car is getting used min twice a week so that has been good, no need to keep it on trickle charger and keeps me happy cruising the streets. Even got a few smiles from some young attractive women until i looked into the back seat and see Archie waving at them.

More usage of the car has thrown up an issue with the drivers side door latch though. Its very stiff, the passenger i can push down and it springs back up.  Before i take it out any tips on how its put together? what could possibly be broken? As the passenger one springs up im a bit worried. im hoping maybe a remove and clean but as im using the car i dont want a drawn out repair. Are two and 4 doors the same latch mech?

Also totally not needed but i picked up a shortened english axle/ half shafts that has been done so 8s will fit in standard guards, which would mean i could put that in and then run a look like below. But it throws my brake upgrade plans all out of wack as id need something to fit 13s. I might not end up doing any of it but it came up cheaper then it would have to have it done down the track so i though why not.

Managed to attract a Spicy pinto friend at coffee and cars the other day.

Welcome back Robbie lol
All escort latches are the same, Fords forward thinking there..!
So you bought shorted axle housing n shafts. I'll let you in on a secret, mk1 cortina housing n axles are 2in shorter , this is what I did on my orange Mex so I didn't need to roll the guards fitting 7x15 and disk rotors.
Some things like hand brake rod needs shorting and the spring platforms need moving outwards a bit , but fits a treat 👍

I have had the latches get a bit sticky on all the Fords but a quick spray and work the latch has always done the trick for me.
I have never pulled the locking mechanism apart as it comes out and goes in as a unit.

As above, just peel the door trim back and aim the rp40 can at the inside latch, give it a few sets of open close movements and it'll be good to go.
