Hi Guys

I have done some 3D printing for my Mk1 escort - i have have printed the air vents, RS style centre caps and even interior lights - next on the list is the side mirror spaces and the switches for the lights and wipers

they turn out very good and the material they are made out of is ABS which is the same stuff LEGO is made from - my vents have been in the car for about 2 years - not faded or warped and the centre caps were on for about a year through rain and heat - still perfect the white of the RS is just white out haha works a treat - even that is not even dis coloured

It is definitely possible with 3D printing - and a little cheaper too

Hi Everyone,

It looks like we're getting a 3d printer at work, and I'm going to be able to have a play, so I thought I'd resurrect this thread.

The printer itself has dual extruding heads, meaning you can print either 2 different colors in the item, or materials, or a material stock and also the support that may be needed whilst printing, or 2 parts at once, etc.

So just wondering, if anyone else has done some more experimenting with 3d printing Escort and Capri Parts.
All of Mushers items above would be worth printing, so if your still lurking Musher, please let me know.

If anyone has any good links for 3d parts, that would be great also (the machine just uses stl files).
I have 3 colors of  improved version of PLA filaments coming (engineering PLA), plus a Carbon filament also.

Wiggy the printing bed size would possibly accommodate a cluster surround, but I'd need the 3D file itself, or
or someone way smarter than me to draw any item up that we may want printed.

I've been busy with other stuff but finally bought a 3 printer and have been playing with printing door lock surrounds.  Will post pics later but wanted to let those interested know that this months street machine mag has an article about a company 3d printing steering component prototypes and then print the jigs for manufacturing.

Hey Guys,

Same as some of the other guys here. Access to a very decent 3D printer, Solid Works modelling software to build the parts and a MK2 escort to home them. I really have been slack so far but will get onto making some bits that i need. If anyone needs any quick parts modelled up, happy to help. Just need a decent sketch/dimensions of what you are after and can deliver the required STL file. Something like a dash cluster is a different story. Can definitely be done, but modelling will take some time and the print time would be decent.

One thing to note is the standard print material wont like being fully exposed to the sun. Great for internal parts but anything that will be subjected to repeated heat cycles, UV, not sure how well they will hold up...

Does anyone know if those interior lamps that can be replaced with Commodore 90051501, which I assume you're saying for Escort, if they will also do Capri ?
thanks

Hi guys.

Danté from South Africa here.
I found this thread while searching for 3D printed options for my MK1 Escort Air vents.

Here is hoping that Musher96 is still around so that I can print myself two Air vent covers.

the gearlever bush for my van fell apart when I looked at it the wrong way, and  Yesterford are closed for a few weeks. So it got me back onto the  hunt for 3D print files for the Escort, I was hoping to print a mockup to make do.

Not sure if anyone has seen this guy making a 1/12 3D printed model, but its turning out very nice!

Maybe we need a CF 3d parts file share library.
All I can contribute car wise so far is just the file for  brake/clutch peddle bushes.
(oh, and the file for Netgain Hyper 9 elec motor 1:1) :)

Hehe a bubble 12th scale mk1 Escort would fit nice on your Landy rock crawler !!

I also have a 3de printer but have no idea on loading files from metrathingyverse whatever so it's been shelved since 2018 !
I need a person here to show me the way to get it in action.. I'm not an IT knowledged person so don't say to do this or that on here unless you can translate it into engine, body, paint, interior, or I will pass out from technician overload and not have a clue .!
It's a shame cause the 3de printer has a 300x300x 280 build area too..

Thats a pity, i'm sure we could get you going.

if you wanted to play Marty, give this a crack.

edit: poo, it wont let an stl file be uploaded.
Will send the Capri clutch bush file, and a minilight wheel that I tubbed fatter.
What model is your printer? and did you ever have it working?

Compress it to a ZIP file and upload the ZIP file.

That might work.
