Hi folks,

Been a while since iv been on here, and in the meantime iv finished uni, landed a job and have now some free time to do a little work on my mk1 esky.

At the moment im still struggling to find the space to work on the car itself, so iv had to find some other projects.
I picked this up cheap and figured i'd restore it as a side project. She's a pretty tattered old steering wheel and ill strip her down and give her a fresh lick of paint and have it re-covered by a friend.

Just wondering what you folks think of it. Most notedly i noticed it was welded onto the spline at its base you can see it in one of the photos. Is this normal? Just looks like a horrible welder was employed.

I will report back with pics as i go.

Hey mate thanks for the speedy reply,

Just wondering out of curiosity, how can one tell if its a MK1 or MK2 RS wheel? They look so similar and after flicking through my manuals i had been totally convinced it was off a MK1 as the central steering wheel cover has a logo/badge insert inner diameter thats 63.5mm which is the same as the reproduction MK1 RS logo inserts.

I'v cut the moulded rubber off the wheel as it was shot to pieces (an understatement to say the least) and am tossing up between making a mold to recast a resin rim, or to possibly do a wooden rim. It could be a funky change from the standard.

Cheers for your opinions and guidance!
