Regarding matching numbers, just have a look at the auction results for any classic cars and all the top prices set are for matching numbered cars with full history.
 
Owners of non-matching numbers car argue that it doesn't matter if the original engine is still with the car however can you honestly say if you was offered the matching numbered engine for your car you wouldn't want it......
 
 
 

I think ebay represents market value to a point all be it full of timewasters and idiots.
A view at present is theres a number of Capris available right now and original models are up for 40k plus with matching numbers .
Then theres a modified car with a 460 dart motor for 90k . 
That hasnt matching numbers . 
Some guys want matching numbers .
Some guys want dyno numbers. 

Theres been a few of these period shaggin' wagons coming up lately. Every fathers worst nightmare having his daughter picked up in one of these

Some might have seen this one for sale. I bought it. It shows how to be an idiot on car so well. Take a classic cut it up and forget about engineering, safety and all structural integrity. It’s the white V6 that was on eBay last week.

I’ve got all the panels from wrecks. I’ve been looking for something to start on really that I could not make worse than when I bought it.
I’ve been to a few coarses and do a bit of practical experience more so.
Never really stuffed up yet but skill level needs a star or two.
This one will teach me before I start all the others.
We’ve all been through it. The expectation doesn’t meet your ability.
Stand back and learn. This now is my favourite project.
They’ve seriously cut out the whole firewall.
No idea what new firewall they put in but so badly done it’s not funny. I’ll try to post a photo but it won’t work.
