Fitting a Cortina GT gauge pod into my switch panel and decided to fit some spacers to angle the faces a little to make them easier to read.  Went online to find some ready-mades and you could have knocked me over with a feather -Nearly $15 each for a bit of moulded plastic!!  Times that by 4 and add postage and its as much as I paid for the gauges!!  tried a piece of poly pipe but too much work to reduce the wall thickness to fit $6 for the effort.  Had a look thru my wifes craft stuff - found plastic tube holding an LED candle, a neat 52mm.  A couple of minutes work with hacksaw to cut 4 sections, another few minutes work to trim with scissors to achieve the right angle. One set of spacers- $0.  Maybe I'm used to doing things on the cheap, due to lack of budget but I really baulk at paying big money for cheap stuff. Just have to prime and paint and they're ready to fit.  Len

Love your work! And so, so much better than the $15 a pop ones.

I did the same with the tacho in my mk1. Used a section of poly pipe. Worked a treat!

Hi Hak,
That's a neat looking install, fairly close in size to standard by the look of it.  What model VDO instrument did you use.

Hey Len.
I was originally going to use an old Mk2 Cortina tacho, but it never worked. This VDO one is a 333-354, I think. I can't find a pic of the sticker on the gauge.
The VDO one fits in pretty well. Took a bit of fiddling to get it sitting right, but it sits in there ok now.

Hi HAK,
As you might have read from my post on a vss speedo I will have to go aftermarket so your post on mounting your tacho will come in very handy!- will have to do something similar. Cheers Len

Hak,
Nice creative solution.
What about the gauges that the tacho evicts? Need some aftermarket extras elsewhere?

Say hi to Betty for me.

Hey Alan. Betty says hi :)

The evicted gauges found their way down to the centre console. And the switches evicted from down there went onto the dash.
