Mitch,
Do you have any travel-freeplay in the clutch pedal. That is cable slack + the air gap between the release bearing and diaghram. Should be a about 1cm. If you cant get some freeplay by adjusting the cable and a workable clutch then your plate or diaghram is probably stuffed. Is your clutch pedal height the same or a bit higher than your brake?

Its a matching number car so im assuming the box is a 2lt one however the clutch did the same thing in the panelvan it never worked. The owner said it had snapped but it hasn't.

Can only really be one of 2 things, either the fork spacer is missing (which is most likely), or the fork is damaged.  Either way the box or the engine has to come out. No other way around it
A 1600 cable on a 2 litre isnt ideal as it will likely rest on the exhaust but i strongly doubt it will be the problem here unless the cable is internally siezed up.

If the spacer is missing you will need to get one, and also the factory bolt that the fork pivots on. Yesterford in Melbourne would have both.

Is the spacer inside the box or outside? Not sure what It all is, can anyone post a pic of where the spacer goes ? Is the 'fork' the piece the cable connects to?
Im pretty much trying to learn this all on my own so my mechanical knowledge is quite low lol. Thanks for your help

The spacer is inside the bell housing and yes the fork is the bit the cable connects to, at the other end of the fork is where the spacer should be. I couldn't find any photos online.

I would seriously consider investing ini a Haynes manual or you should be able to get a workshop manual pretty cheaply ebay. It'll save you a load of time and pain in the long run. Forums are a great place to source the info but the manuals will give you a good foundation to build on.

Yeah I have a manual for it just wasnt sure if the spacer would be in it. Ill have a look after work today and see how it goes, doing valve clearances aswell and can you tell me how you tell which is exhaust an inlet? Is it as simple as the valve sprin on the inlet side is the inlet one and opposite for exhuast

Just look where the manifold ports/runners meet the head. The respective valves will be adjacent.

Cheers
