Checked in on the Capri paint job today. The car is looking great with plenty of progress made. The painter is spending about 50% of his time on the car so all the filler work is not done. High fill primer has been applied and is ready for run down etc. The car should be straight as by the end of this. I worked with the painter today to correctly apply all the sikaflex on the joints.
The most exciting part was the paint matching. The paint sprayed off a colour card with Dupont Blaze Blue 2k paint. At first I was concerned about the match but after the original paint patch in the sunroof recess area was polished and I compared the colour in the sunlight the match was spot on. It is 2k v the original acrylic so there will always be a slight difference in appearance but the match is good. This was a big concern for me as Blaze Blue wasn't a popular colour in any Ford model so I wasn't sure if I was going to get a formula from a quality paint supplier (was trying to avoid tinting a colour if I could help it).
Based on current progress the paint job should be done within about 3 weeks.

What's the pressure bottle sitting in the strut mount (in the last photo) for?

It's wax and grease remover. The painter used it when applying the sikoflex to make it easier to apply and clean up.

I'm looking forward to seeing the colour on the body (as I'm sure you are). I'm quite a fan of the 70's Ford blue shades.

I sure am keen to see it. The painter put two coats on a random front guard he had and the colour looks amazing. The shade of blue really pops and should stand out. For whatever reason there werent many blue Capri option available so there are few blue Capris today. Not long to wait now!

Is my excitement that obvious? It's been a long road to get here (feels it anyway).

With the paint job well on the way I'm under the pump to finish prepping all my parts. The wiring harness is my current project which is testing out this office worker with little electrical aptitude. I've pulled down the original harness and I've bought all the correct coloured cable and terminals etc. This in itself has been a sizeable job. I'm now copying each section of the harness by mirroring the original v6 harness. Keeping track of which wires are copied on the main under dash harness is a good challenge and required plenty of concentration. I have laid out most of the cable but haven't really made too many terminations yet.
I'd certainly appreciate any wiring tips (particularly how to ensure the tacho works when you have an electronic ignition and whether the driving lights were originally taped in the harness or not when fitted as a factory option).

Checked in with the painter today and all going well the car will be painted by the end of this weekend. Just need to sort out the black out paint now through Glasurit paints to get a correct colour match for the bonnet and sills/rear panel. If all goes to plan the painted body will be back in my shed ready for the reassembly process by the end of the weekend.

In the meanwhile I'm working on the following:
- building the wiring harness
- making new brakes lines
- reassembling head and tail lights
- polishing the chrome work
- getting the driveline back from the builder
- getting the booster and master cylinder rebuilt
- getting Simmons wheels polished and centres painted
- painting final loose parts including the fuel tank, leaf springs, starter motor etc
- plenty of other stuff I won't go into ...........

In short I am busy with the little spare time I have.

Pics of paint job obviously to come as soon as I get them this weekend. fingers crossed.

Hi, well it's the business end of the rebuild now with Blaze Blue paint starting to go on the car. These photos were taken last night after the painter completed the engine bay, boot, boot lid and brackets. The battery tray gets welded in today and touched up. The body should be painted tomorrow or Friday in time for black outs on Saturday.

The colour is absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to see the black out contrasts as well. Last thing to sort is whether to use silver or gold stripes (not sure which colour it came with). I may decide to go with whichever looks best if I can't confirm what it had originally. Simmons will be colour matched against the stripes.

More photos to come over the next couple of days as the paint job comes together!
