The extension of the air intake would swivel down towards the extractors for hot air during winter and forward for cold air during summer. This probably worked a lot better in europe than here tho. I have removed this bit and the choke completly and it works fine here in qld.
Yep, fine in QLD.  But here in sunny CBR, try 40+c in summer down to -10c in winter (with regular minus night temps for about 12wks !!)

Love the old advert.
LUUUVVVV the twin sidedraughts....oooh ahhh !!

My car had a set of rusted out 4 slot rostyles with it when I picked it up. Could they have been the original sports road wheels put on it when it was ordered?

I picked up the car from the panel beater yesterday. He has done a magic job and has fixed every issue created through modification. Key work included heating/shrinking/hammering the wheel arches to remove the flaring and return to original, replace the damaged LHS gusset, replace sections of both guard bottoms, repair the damaged drainage lip on the firewall, replace the pedal box support panel in the engine bay, repaired the battery tray (will be installed once further paint prep in that area is complete, repaired some RHS inner guard accident damage and a few other bits such as welding up excess holes etc.

I've had a change of plan re painter and will now be paint stripping the car before giving it to another painter to build up from there.

The Rostyles you got are the the ones correct for the last of the capris.  I'm surprised Rons had the usual style, but as he said it might also explain the seats being different too.

Thanks for your reply.

I've attached a couple of photos from the early 80's of the car with 4 slot Rostyles. I recall that the wheels were 5 inches wide. Does that sound right?

I binned them because they were rusted out completely and I didn't think Capri's came with 4 slot Rostyles in Australia.

Hello all. It's been a while now since my last  post.
Two things have been giving me grief for the last few months. Number one is myw search for a painter. As many of you will know finding a competent and trustworthy painter who you can afford is bloody difficult. I've been through the ringer getting the panel beating done and now I'm doing the same with the painter. The good news is I am expecting a final quote this week with the painting process to begin in the first week of October.
The second headache has been my search for a good v6 bonnet. I've had a couple of false starts with bonnets also. To recap my car came with an early model v6 bonnet with the rear alloy vent.

I've had some progress in the last week or so. I've finalised arrangements with the painter with the car booked to go in on 12 October. The car will be stripped (etch primer) and painted in epoxy primer on the Saturday which will really get the paint job moving. The painter is lined up to work on the car fulltime and expects to complete the paint work in 4 weeks. I can't say how happy I am to get this locked in.
I've also sourced a V6 bonnet which has been much harder than I thought it would be. I'm will pick that up next week in time for fitting to the Capri before it goes in for paint.
I took some photos on the weekend of the etch primed body shell. The engine bay in particular is a 1000% improvement on what I brought home a couple of years ago (see photo of the disaster zone).

I'm glad to report that I finally have a good condition v6 bonnet which is suitable for a 72 model GT. I happened to be travelling by car to Sydney for holidays this week so I was able to pick up the bonnet and bring it back to Queensland. Check out the custom made bonnet carrier my old man knocked up for me. It travelled beautifully and avoided the need to tow a trailer for 2000km. The bonnet will be paint stripped this week in time to go to the painter with the body this coming saturday.

The weekend just gone was a cracking weekend for a Ford fan with Mark Winterbottom/Steven Richards win.

I also had a major win in getting my car into the paint shop and in a coat of epoxy primer. See the photos below of the bare metal body getting ready for the primer coat. It has been a massive job to get the panel beating done to correct the damage done during the early 80's modifications. I am happy to say that the body is looking as straight as you like and the metal clean and ready for a new lease of life. The painter is pretty much dedicated to this project and is estimating that the car will be finished within 4 weeks.

All of a sudden my unfinished parts restoration/polishing actions etc etc are in focus now as I scramble to be ready to piece the car back together starting around xmas.

I will be tracking progress keenly and will share photos of the paint job as it moves along.

Cheers
