I thought it was about time that I posted a note about my current project car. I don't know the exact definition of 'barn find' but this car should be considered one. This Capri had been parked in a shed and not used since 1986. The car still has the 1986 rego label on the windscreen.

In terms of the car the details below from Ford give a good summary:

Model Code      13218 - Capri 2 door 3000 GT
Engine Code     P - 3000 CC 2V
Transmission Code       X - 4 Speed close ratio floor shift
Paint   M - Blaze Blue
Trim    W - White
Options 03 - Seat belts (mandatory)
10 - Sunroof
27 - Mud flaps (mandatory)
52 - Sports road wheels
56 - Driving lights
73 - Deluxe pushbutton radio
Tyres   99 - 175 x 13 Radial ply tyres
Date of Manufacture     August 1972
Retail Dealer   1549 - Carl Robertson Ford, Southport QLD

I was sold on the virtually rust free body, the very rare Blaze Blue colour with white trim, the factory wind back sunroof (I have never seen one) and the triple weber engine. I've had the Capri for a little under 2 years now and have been progressively restoring it. Once I learn how to upload some photos I'll post them.

I've started adding some photo's on photo bucket (can't seem to work out how to post directly to the forum).

The advert phots's were taken in the shed where the Capri has been stored for 20 plus years.

I also got some great photo's of the car when the previous owner bought it in the early 80's and repainted it in a Fiat red colour (he believed red cars went faster at the time!).

I will add more photo's of the stripping process in the coming weeks (the car is fully stripped now and delivered to the panel beater last weekend).

Cheers

I remember that car when it was advertised. It looked pretty good, but the engine bay was smoothed out and the radiator support panels appeared modified. Looking at your pics, the engine bay was obviously factory original underneath a layer of body filler.

I'm glad there'll be another project car to follow, and a blue one too!

Cheers

The engine bay was a real mess which made the purchase a bit of a gamble. Pretty much all of the factory press marks and shape under the bonnet was covered in either filler, sheet metal of both. I'll load a couple of photos becuase it needs to be seen to be beleived. There were places where they was an inch deep of filler. I would have sanded and chipped out 5 litres of bog if not more.

The previous owner made the changes during the street machine era where smoothing out your engine bay and hiding your wiring was all the rage. Thankfully all of these changes can be relatively easily undone which supported my decision to complete a factory original restoration. Im not out of the woods yet though as anyone who has has panel and paint work done would know!
