My wife has offered to buy me a race seat, steering wheel pedals assembly etc for the PS3.
She wants me to be a better driver before I kill myself on the first hill climb !
Has anyone any experience of these things and are they useful or just fun?
which games etc, dirt3 or others.
BTW car will arrive in Freo on about 19th October so no chance for WA All Ford day

I have the Logitec G25 wheel which comes with wheel, pedals and gear shift.
From what I read it was the best at that time and I've used it for mostly PC games but my neighbour now has borrowed it for his PS3.
We have played the Dirt games and it's great!
As far as the seat etc you can buy them which allows you to simply bolt on the logitec wheel.

Since when did a PS3 become a actual racecar simulator? .  Apart from helping learn the layout of a given track, it's not going to make you into a better driver, and help prevent you from killing yourself. That is done through real driving, not on a PS3! Nice excuse to get the gear though, it worked!

You should just buy an xbox and get the setup for forza 3, or 4 when it come out in a month or so. Forza is really realistic and there are a few good cars. Engine convertions, turbo/s, twin screws, awd conv. Sadly no escorts or sierras. But they have the rs500. Can drive manual with clutch and turn off abs and stability and what not. You should try it out. Just my 2cents.

This is the sort of input i was looking for guys.
I've never even played a computer game since space invaders so have no idea which is the way to go.. My son in law reckons ps3 is the best but I know no other source of input.
If you guys reckon the xbox is better then I'll take it on board.
I look forward to more comments, and...... if she thinks it will make me a better driver then who am I to argue

i got both ps3 and xbox... 
 
i also got both forza and gran tourismo, 
 
forza is great and so is gran tourismo, but in my opinion the ps3 is a much better all round machine, i have hundred of movies uploaded and thats just the start of what it does as an entertainment system.
 
as for the games both are great i do think forza lets you get away with more as a driver (more of an arcade feel) and GT can be more frustrating  (therefore perhaps more realistic). without a doubt Gt on the ps3 is so much more visually stimulating than any other game, and i think thats the main reason i choose to play it. 
If this means anything my xbox has maybe been used once in the last 12 months and im 41% through forza and my ps3 gets turned on maybe once a week and im 52% through GT..

Get yourself a logitech g27 wheel (comes with pedals and h pattern shifter) then get yourself a copy of rFactor. IMO the best simulator for PC, i make the mods for rFactor, and have been running leagues for the past 4-5 years. You'll be surprised with the options out now!

Thanks for the info, the only problem I have with rfactor is its a PC and I run only macs here. I could use parallels and run it but i'm sure it would slow things down. I still have a micro PC somewhere that i could investigate using I suppose.
Ill look into rfactor a bit more.

I am a Xbox + Forza Motorsport fan too. The Sierra Cosworth RS500 is good fun in FM3... here are a few which I have painted in game...


 
FM4 is shaping up to be a great game and it will also include the Escort Cosworth.
