UPDATE...I thought better post something. Bonnett 98% happy with ,Boot 100% .Front guards 1 finished and d/s 95%. Door sills done. Started on rear qtrs.
Overall car has very minimal rust or bog which is very surprising for a car coming upto 40yrs old.
.I am going to the original ultra white colour in 2 pack. Im up for discussion wheather to clear coat to give the white extra depth?[?]I dont think it will need it but Id like to give it a bit of modern touch..
Cheers

There are lots of opinions on this and purists would say it should be repainted in acrylic just like the factory did.
My way of thinking is that the colour is the important part - keep the colour true to original but do it in the best quality finish you can, which includes a clearcoat. I reckon old classics look superb with a modern quality original colour paintjob, regardless of make or model.

Keep the pics coming!

Cheers

I could be wrong but as far as I know you need to apply the clear coat as part of the two pack system. Its the clear that gives the color the shine, depth and protection. Without it the color is pretty ordinary and would fade pretty quick i think.
As for using todays acrylic to match yesterdays factory finish it cant be done so easy. The factory baked the primer then according to my manual applied an acrylic resin base enamel also baked. the result of this was a hard glossy finish which in my opinion more resembled todays two pak than todays acrylic does.
There are pros and cons to applying both finishes but as far as Im concerned two pak is way superior.
If a concourse competition car is your aim then you have a problem to solve but for the rest of us its two pak all the way.
Matty I want to see that car shine

UPDATE..
Windscreens out thanks to dave.Doors off.
I decided therer wasn't enough shiny metal so have started getting a bit more serious with the grinder.A panels are spotless as are the sills.
I have a loan of Ron's (caprispecial) rotisserie so I plan to metal finish the underside as well.Making things very workable.

UPDATE..I have the loan of Ron's(caprispecial) rotisserie which is making the car very easy to work with.

Nice bare roof. I thought i would have jagged a panel without bog. Nope the slightest dig , which i mite be able to dolly out yet.

Going to wire wheel back and put a fresh coat of underbody.

Its a great idea to build a rotisserie before getting stuck into welding on the car as that way you can learn how to weld before attacking your precious vehicle. I hope Im not making you nervous Matte? Theres no feeling quite like turning your car totaly upside down for the first time.
