i just yanked out a broken engine mount which was severely melted. Now, which came first, the chicken or the egg?
Did the mount break, causing the engine to tilt, leaving the extractors resting on the mount which melted it..... or did the extractors cause the mount to melt and break in the first place.
I've got a bit over an inch clearance from the extractors to mount.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Are my pipes too close?

Sounds like the pipes are closer than normal but i haven't got my car here to check.

I have 2 Escorts with pinto's, both have extractors and neither have ever melted an engine mount from exhaust heat.

my escort has extractors (2ltr)

and i was running with the distributer timing stupidly retarted (dangerous i no, but it was just around my house, not road used)

and so the extractors were getting literally RED HOT

so hot they melted my clutch and speedo cable.

and the engine mount is still fine..

so yeah i second the opinion of engine mount faulty, not exhaust

This was normal in my first escort(only thru thrashing it, and short hard driven trips around town....ah the good ol' days)....cable ties work wonders in holding cables where u want them and away from what you want too!! I had to replace a clutch cable due to it melting the outer into the main cable and not allowing it to move freely.

Round and square Escort mounts perish and separate rather quickly, invest in a chassis mount kit or world cup type x member. I am just about to replace, for the first time, a world cup engine mount bush (same as rear spring eye bush) on my car, after 10 years of hard flog (including 6 years of Aussie forest rallying).
