GTV6
Ford have changed their policy, they will now give out the info over the phone, to anyone, no more ID and proof of ownership requirements, all you need is the VIN, so if you are in a hurry to find out just give them a call.  You can then ask them to email or post you the letter to file away.  The email/letter takes a couple of weeks.

Hmm its a CK17KR october 1970

I suggest that you start by downloading and printing out the 'Capri By The Numbers' document for the 1970 models here:
http://www.classic-ford.org/cfp/tm.aspx?m=83004
Then, compare it with your Vehicle ID Plate affixed to the heater box in the engine bay. That's the best starting point, even before going to Ford!

Okay thanks everybody, ill post up the numbers today, all the numbers eg (chassis number on slam panel) and engine number on shock tower match, it also has a number on passenger shock tower which im not sure what it is for. And yes its a JE engine
As for the position of the badge, from in the boot it appears to be the original position but i will shine a torch and have a look further forward.
I did look at that Capri by the numbers before i purchased it to check that everything matched.

Seems next step is to call Ford and see what info they give me.

Cheers

Sorry the numbers are hard to see in the photos.
But everything seems to match.

Definitely no holes further forward when looking from inside the boot, so appears to be the original badge position.

Looks good from what I can make out. I’ve not found any information about the number stamped on the passenger inner guard, but my theory is it’s some sort of sequential assembly line number, e.g. your car could be the 4861st european based car assembled in 1970. It’s just a theory though.

Cheers

From what I've researched the 1970 model has Capri Sed on the compliance plate, I could be wrong though as I'm far from an expert yet haha.

Yes I'm very happy with the find,
I had a wanted ad up, expecting to get a 1600 but after a few replies this one came through and I couldn't resist. It's very clean for rust, and the lines are very good.

Just took a bit of thinners to the bonnet bulge and there is no black under neath, appears to be diamond white.
Which indicates it could be a 'Delete Option' model
If it is the original paint
