Hi guys,
Just picked up this matching numbers V6 GT Capri,  originally diamond white, going to take it back to the original paint job, but ive noticed the GT badges are set further back compared to other GT Capris ive seen, any ideas why?

It’s most likely a ‘Delete options’ car which originally had no side stripes, bonnet blackouts, or rear blackout. If so, that’s where the GT badge would have been originally.

Oh really, any way of finding out what options it came with from the factory? Does the 'Delete Option' make it any more or less desirable if i take it back to completely original?
Hard to find pics of Delete Option Capris, wonder how many had the option.

If it's a delete it would be a late 1972 model with the vin starting with CK17ME.

Ford will give you an authentication letter listing its build options.  https://www.ford.com.au/owners/contact-us/

Then it's not a "delete"; only 11 "deletes" were made at very end of production and only these 11 got the GT Badge
put where yours is. Only these 11 Delete's (like mine in the inset) had uprated Engine (165HP in lieu of 144HP), plus uprated Engine components, Gearbox and Diff and uprated suspension......
So someone's installed your GT Badges to immitate a 1972 Delete, or if on both sides, maybe both rear quarters have been removed from a 1972 Delete to go on yours after a prang. If yours is a genuine 1970 model, your seats should be low back, no rear demister glass, possibly single line Brake Master, no reo gusset where guards meet plenum scuttle, plus other items found in this forums history pages.
Does Chassis number on RH Shock Tower look to be genuinely stamped by Ford ?
Can you post lots more close-up photos  ?

only 11 deletes ? that makes my Teal Glow Capri pretty rare then  ..... are you mixing them up with the BSS specials ?

Should have a JE or JF engine number then.  Chassis number would be on slam panel, engine number on RH strut tower.

A prang severe enough to have both quarters replaced would have also damaged the boot and roof and would have written the car off.  More likely that the badges were moved when the decision to remove the stripes was made.  When you take it back to original paint job you will probably find the original holes bogged up.  You may be able to see them from inside the boot.  The badge looks to be original (not falcon) so that's a bonus for you.

Great find, looks nice and straight with crisp lines.

A letter from Ford is where I would start. Delete option should be listed if the badges were originally located further back on the quarter panel as per ypur photo. Shine a torch inside the boot to see if there are signs of badge holes further further forward on the quarter panel.

Paul is correct. The 11 cars were the upgraded drivetrain 'specials', and these were only done in late 1972.

The delete option cars were different (unless a 'special' was ordered as a delete option car). You can get delete option cars from any of the capri years, not just 1972. To find out for sure, email Ford customer relations. The letter they send will tell you what other things it was ordered with.

As for value, they aren't any more valuable than a normal GT V6, but interesting nonetheless. I used to have one years ago, and I wish I still had it.

If you haven't already, go through the various threads in the 'Capri by the numbers' section of the forum for more info.

Cheers
Jamie
