Hi
I need help identifying a gearbox. Which I need to replace.
I have a RS2000 4 door with a stuffed gearbox, upon inspection it doesn't seem right, The gear lever is shifted back in the tunnel like a 5 speed sierra box and the gearbox mounting reaches across the whole tunnel and is bolted through the floor but looks like a factory built gearbox mount.
The gearbox accepts a standard Escort RS short shift gear lever.
 
Any ideas what I have

From your description sounds like it is a later model cortina (td te tf )gearbox and crossmember .

From your description sounds like you have a Cortina version of the 4 speed single rail box. This has the shifter at the very back of the extension housing (approx. 75mm further back). The strengthening brace in your tunnel will be half cut away in this case too. This was the version in the 25 imported mk1 & 2 RS2000 FYI. Are the original gearbox cross member mounts still in your tunnel?  Sounds like the previous owner had a very agricultural solution to the mounts unfortunately!

Sounds like the car may have had a sierra 5 speed conversion at some stage which has then been swapped for a Cortina 4 speed
