Rowan,
Glass is very simple to remove. Just have a helper on hand to catch the glass is you push it out too hard.

Its pretty hard to break any other way when removing it.

No, no more work done on it at the moment... I just noticed something.

Is it just my car or are there other Mk1 Std Escorts that have an DashLight dimmer switch next to the headlight switch?

I ask this because the other Mk1's I've seen pictures of haven't got one...

My Mk1 never ceases to make me think.... "hold on a minute, this is special in ANOTHER way"
I'm intrigued more and more everyday

I JUST bought this on eBay

paid a pretty penny for it too.

Hopefully the link works, it will be removed shortly as the auction has ended and the payment has been made.

So, it's a 1970's style Clarion RS-3020i AM/FM pushbutton radio in mint condition (with one semi-broken knob). This is prefect for my Mk1 Resto as I can use the FM transmitter I have with my iPod to listen to my music! [:x)]

If the radio doesn't work, I'm going to get narcy!

among other things, I have recently acquired...

A center switch panel with ashtray;
An air cleaner bos (although it's not actually for a 1300 model as I've recently discovered);
Engine mount rubbers;
Original 1300 single barrel carby;
Original Kent fuel pump WITH perfect condition glass bowl;
Reproduction engine bay stickers (earth, coolant, timing stickers);
A treen(aparently a type of wood) gearknob with a St Christopher medallion set in the top (safe guide my car, St Chris!);
A 1970's original AM/FM Clarion radio;
A dipstick and tube (is the dipstick really made out of a long spring and the tube is just a piece of rubber?)...

I'm losing track of all the things I've been getting..

I got the Radio delivered today... finally... I need to locate replacement knobs too because one o them is totally buggered. It will sit there for a pretty photo, but will then fall off when you breathe on it...

Anyway, my 2l pinto and auto tranny is STILL bolted into the blasted car. I haven't even drained the water that will be sitting in the petrol tank... man I'm seriously lazy sometimes...

WARNING DEPRESSING UPDATE!

I've done nothing else for my escort... oh, actually one thing.
I've taken a spray can of black rust kill to all the visible rust spots, so I know exactly what I will need to repair.

[:u]
It's scary. I'll take a couple of photos of it tomorrow to show everyone what it's looking like now. At least it appears like I'm working on it.

Also, I've been a bad boy and spent more money and time on my VT Commodore. Damn daily driver... [;^)] I fitted the spoiler I bought for it today. It was a little weird drilling holes into a car boot... I suggest everyone try it sometime. [88] also, I'm looking to take a second hand throttle body and plenum chamber and cut and shut... yep, I'm going to make a backyard bodgy Twin Throttle Body setup for my Commodore.

After I've done that, I may even have it Dyno Tuned so I can submit the results to this forum. It would provide a good benchmark/comparison to all the Hot little Escorts and Cortina's out there.

I'm a Holden fan, yes, and I rarely like a Ford, UNLESS it's pre 1980 [;^)]

Don't make that face at me,

My word, it really has been that long since I started this project.

My Escort went off the road, 3 years ago as of last month. It's had very little done with it since. Wow, I was so young and naive... I guess I still am.

Tomorrow : Photos. [:-(]

So... Andy...
he rang me on the weekend and asked if I was interested, I was really tired and didn't quite take all that he was saying in.. and said no.

What I should have said was this...

"So you've bought a licensed Escort? Mk1 or Mk2? Is it a Coupe? You say it's too good to do what you want to it... Would you be interested in a swap? You've said it yourself they're about the same value. When can I have a look at the car?"

Yeah, that's right. He spent $400 and bought a licensed Escort. Even if it needs work, it's still licensed, which makes a resto job SO much easier and quicker! The motivation is there because you can actually drive the damn car.

I've tried calling him today and I'll try his home number again tonight. I think he may be interested actually....
