well..... the project stalls further.
at least the axles haven't siezed, pushed the car around to a more suiting spot to work on it. I want it to be at least drivable again by Christmas.. but that does not seem likely. So I could CALL it a 30th anniversary edition in that the project started on the cars 30th anniversary, but did not complete.

Who knows, might win lotto this weekend... ha ha ha ha ha

I can't believe I offered to buy my friends original 1980 Sigma just to keep it original and in the hands of someone who knows the complete history of that car...

Just what we need here, car number 9. Will go good next to the blocked up Escort and the boat. *shakes head in disbelief*

anyway, I'm buying new stuff for the engine, and am trying to track down a restoration manual because well... mine got really wet, mouldy and destroyed [B)]

Hooray! I've solved the problem of not having time to work on my Escort!

I QUIT MY JOB! Yeah baby!
I've also located a restoration manual for MK1 and 2 Escorts and Cortinas, just gotta go to the store (Pitstop Bookshop) in Perth and pick a copy up, if they have one there [?]

Anyway, I'm starting to put things back together, went to put in the crankshaft bolts and paused, what tension do these need to be at? I hunted down my manual, and it was eaten by mould. Blasted setbacks....


but now, I've gotta get off my lazy donkey and get this stuff done!

I'll keep you posted ;)

okies, bought the perfect manual...
Haynes Restoration Manual : Ford Escort & Cortina MkI &MkII

"covers all Ford Escort & Cortina MkI & MkII models."
"How to strip down and rebuild a 'Kent' crossflow engine;
How to renovate bodywork and chassis;
How to renovate interiors"

and heaps of other useful things! Simply put, I have a pretty cool manual now, and I think with this, and the help from this website, and finally not having a job to worry about... My Escort will be back ont he road in no time.... double that time, and the cost [(#)]

the crankshaft is schmick! sitting in perfect-a-mundo and rotating freely. Read the Saga "It's not moving!!" in the Help - Urgent! board to get the full story [88]

well.. started on the pistons..
very chunky looking... pitted and all that... after 5 minutes with a wire brush on it I could make out all the edges on the pistons, and discovered they were in very good....very very dirty... but very good condition. Cleaned them up using a dremel tool and small wire brush (ok 4 wire brushes one per piston) and it took off the carbon buildup and polisehd them nicely in one even stroke... (my wrists hurt, golf yesterday didn't help)

Having to wait for the Piston Rings to come from MELBOURNE! gah! the troubles of being in WA... and a day longer because of the Melbourne Cup race... be lucky to get them by the end of the week.
with every passing day the enevitablity of having to get another job looms nearer... [V]

eh.. what are you going to do?

cleaned up the rocker cover last night, took it into town to get it chromed $48 for show condition. I also stopped by Supercheap autos to pickup some high temp engine paint in the original ford light blue.

surprised the hell out of me. Right there, high temp engine paint, in aerosole cans, and the only blue there "Matches Ford Light Blue."
I've done the first coat and boy it matches perfectly! it looks great too!
This is going to be a very clean, very nice, standard 1300 Escort [:x)]
Bought some calipre paint too.. and discovered that I'll need to completely strip the brakes... oh well.. more money.. more time... at least I can work on those while waiting for parts to come for the engine... The discs have rusted over and have practically siezed. Want to be safe as I know before I took the escort off the road the brakes were a little... underpowered.

I've got to locate more stuff for my engine.. like dizzy, startermotor, alternator, carby etc etc etc.

I think it is almost time to start ripping out the old 2 Litre one.... eek.. that's not going to be a fun job...

actually I think the least fun job will be wiring in the new one. A good chance to know exactly what does what, where it goes, and make it look so clean and tidy that everyone who likes older fords will want it!
*giggles*

or maybe I'm just dreaming.



update... ok
just cleaned up the head and painted that too... this is gonna look so nice.....


update... 4th November..... was carrying my head fromt he shed back to the block.... I stepped in a hole my brothers stupid god damned dog had dug.... and twisted my left ankle.. really really badly..

I am so pissed off right now [:-(]

OK!

What's needed now is lots of bed rest and Panadols, and an ice pack. Continue this treatment until all signs of injury are gone.

Once this is done, see a doctor about your ankle. [%]

I'm one of those *I did a St John's Senior First Aid two day course like three weeks ago so I know what I need to do* people... lol

The head is fine.. I hopped over to a place I could put it down safely. It hasn't moved since so I've been a good boy and rested up. It has driven me insane and I write this now as I can't sleep... being 2:22am [(#)]

I did go into town today (actually yesterday according to the clock) and picked up some parts I ordered... also got a quote on chroming the rocker cover.. $100? does that sound right.. seems a bit steep to me... even for show condition.. if the quality turns out down right crap I'm not gonna pay it. Apparently there were dings and pitting in the cover... I noticed bugger all when I was cleaning it up to send it off to be chromed. Well. It's a two pass chroming, once with copper to "fill in" the pitting I guess.. and second with chrome. It had better be beautiful!

Oh, and how much should I pay to get the head converted to use unleaded (correctly), ie. heated in an oven and new hardened valve seats etc etc fitted? I've been quoted $300

And what SHOULD a flywheel ring-gear cost to have replaced by someone who knows what they're doing? [88]

anyway, have begun replacing the piston rings... not much else I can actually do besides put the cam followers and cam shaft back in... need to get the head done for unleaded and wait a week and a half for the rocker cover... *sigh*
