alrighty then. started stripping my engine today. good news, all water housings (meaning both) have not corroded all the way through and are in fact still pretty thick. the temp sensor and oil pressure switch both came out easily and without damage.

unfortunately I am unable to remove the flywheel because I lack a socket that fits over the bolts. I need to replace the metal gasket/plate that goes between the bell hsng and the block. it's a funky shape and I doubt I will be able to find one, so will probably have to make one out of metal gasket sheet...either way that will probably be expensive to replace.

everything else appears to be in good condition, I only hope the transmission is just as good... [:x)]

I hope the restoration works out to be all that you want.
It is a great feeling to admire and drive a car you put together.

ok.. engine got sripped more today, there is NO visible corrosion which is AWESOME! The inlet manifold is great and so is the mounting area. There is only a little calcium buildup, so either this engine hasn't been used for a while, or it has been taken care of.

One problem though, what appears to be a bypass hose housing that screws into the inlet manifold, has snapped off flush in the manifold. I'm hoping I can figure out some way to get it out or rebore the hole etc etc, so that I don't have to get another manifold.

I think it would be fairly easy to rebore to a suitable size, re-thread it and use plumbers tape, should work. *fingers crossed*

the engine really is in beautiful condition [:x)]

It is good to find people in the same local area in this forum, it doesn't just happen to people in Melbourne and Sydney

alrighty.. here are the pics of my engine, and the inlet manifold. The engine has been stripped further and is now on an engine stand, in the photo you may make out the exhaust manifold under the sump keeping it level [:x)]

the place I bought the engine from threw in those extractors in the last picture. I'm going to use those instead of the exhaust manifold, but I'll strip them down first to make sure they're ok [:I]

I will have to take you up on a few things, perhaps you might have them... like a dizzy [:x)]

Look forward to getting it all sortid mate! rofl

Ok.. well.. I have begun to realise, that with my new retail sales job, I have no time to work on my Escort, the fact that absolutely NOTHING has happened with the project in over a month proves that to me.

The logical thing to do would be sell the Escort and the rest of the project.... but, I'm not logical. Not with something close to me like the Escort. [:X)]
So. If this job, that is proving to be more annoying than initially thought, does not improve with hours, well... I guess I'll be looking for another job.

I've had my escort for over 3 and a half years now. It deserves me more than a job I've been in for only a month. [}:)][8]
