i am thinkin of buying a sand blaster one of the ones of ebay. there a small unit i figured this would be a good unit for doing the under body. and also car parts. Opinions bad? good?

If you go on turbo sport all the blokes on there do it so cant be to hard, or can be[:x)]

and also im wanting to either get my car sandblasted or dipped im thinkin more towards dipped but wats peoples opinion.

my car was blasted using one...... but you easily warp panels, any large bits, great on parts, small areas,great for under guards ...having said that iv`e seen it used on bonnets and doors etc, but in small light doses and it works a treat [:p] you can also use different blasting media, eg: beads, grit etc, but on larger panels its easier using paint stripper and a stainless scourer and scraper

all the outside panels and wat not im gonna do myself by hand or grinder. just wanted to know if they were good for inner wings and under body.

shouldnt be a prob then just wear ear muffs and safety glasses or goggles.... and it makes an absolute MESS tho, grit flies everywhere, if its in a "confined area", ya can reuse it as long as its not wet

I would recommend soda blasting as it's better on the panels.

I had sand blasting done and it warped my roof, the painter spent ages trying to rectify the problem.

What you pay for is what you get, unless you know someone who does a good job for a reasonable price or learn it yourself. Getting the problems fixed (or having to bin the car) can cost more then paying for the right job in the first place.

Dipping or blasting both have +'s or -'s - blasting is probably easier to get done as there are a heap of businesses that do it. That said, this soda blasting appears to carry less risk (only based on what's in their ads) I did a heap of web searches, that usually linked back to web forums and when people who have done this staff all their life give an opinion or advice give that more credience then the person who may be selling their own product.

In terms of getting this machine for the brackets & small bits, I don't think you can go wrong - what did you drop on the 'EBay search' to find this (might be interested myself - beats spending hours sanding & stuffing around with paint stripper)

yeah i get wat ya sayin bout payin for wat you get. and trust me the money i will be spending on this car is alot so payin 1500 to 2gs for a baremetal job isnt a problem.

just dropped in sandblaters and came up with a few bench ones that you do for parts and then there where a few portable ones that fit bout 40kilos of sand in em.

im definently buyin one of these units see how i go.

Dont buy the red kettle ones off ebay, they are good for one single use only and then start playing up.
You also need a huge compressor to run them - mine has 100L tank and is 10cfm and was running all day long and still couldn't keep the air up for it.

had my escort blasted, $550 for the whole car...panels were already stuffed so dont know if it warped it or not...
