old capri v6
My car doesn't have bonnet pins, had the bonnet pop up a couple drives ago and the safety catch worked luckily. After my heart rate returned to normal, I thought someone must have made or designed some type of secondary system. Currently I have a cable tie and a piece of dowel that drops into the secondary latch hole (very agricultural). Any Ideas?? and no I am not fitting pins...

Having had 2 bonnet flips on my former Capri (4 cyl) I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you fit bonnet pins.

If you insist on not fitting them, I would suggest you use a leather belt type restraint in at least 2 positions as the bonnet tends to rock from side to side at speed if not properly restrained.

The bonnet catch on Capris are also fairly weak and tend to bend. This is why it is common to see them fitted sideways to provide a bit more strength against the slam panel. I have come across Capris where the catch has ripped a section out of the slam panel due to wind getting under the front edge.

Wow must be a common issue, leather straps might be an option,
I would prefer not to hack the bonnet with pins, but might not have a choice.

I too have seen a bonnet flip and it did a lot of damage to the roof as well.  What will you attach the straps too?  Straps will also detract from originality so I highly recommend pins just make sure they are correct type and location for your year and no one will ever know, or if you want 100% original to build spec all you can do is make sure catch and latch are not worn, adjusted properly, cross your fingers and drive a bit slower.

Wondering if you could reverse the pins and have them work through the same hole. Pins going through the support in the bonnet would be the only way it could work and a long pin to secure the grill. My Perana has no pins and I’m sure one day it’ll bite me. I like the pins but previous owner removed them.
