Does someone out there know the history of the twin system outlets.  The Ford books just show the one outlet on the left but so many V6's have left and right outlets but surely they weren't all modified and resprayed by exhaust shops.  Neither of my cars Ford letters make any mention of a change but both have left and right outlets.

Yes, as spud says, factory default was 2 into 1 and out at left, from what I can see and gleen from others.
I must have had dual all the way at one stage as my rear beaver has the outlet half circles
installed so well, you'd swear they were like that from factory, which is how I'd prefer as I have on all
my V8's as Factory Original
Not sure today, but not long ago, it was legal to terminate both individual outlets just in front of, and not past the rear tyres any further than width of car. since we have Capri's with fixed rear side glass and so no fear of gases entering car. Maybe not legal any longer, as I don't recall seeing any such example on any V6 ???????
Good topic you've raised

I asked my mechanic and he says that it might have been that dealers made the changes using template and instructions provided by Ford.  Acrylic paint so would have been easy for the dealer to touch up.  Maybe he is onto something here, I find it hard to believe that so many cars would have been modified to such a good standard by exhaust shops.

I purchased (early 71) a damaged 2/70 3000GT which had a factory fitted twin system.  The original owner advised that was how the car was delivered.  He was unaware that the exhaust system was not the norm.
You ask:  how was it a factory fitted system?
The drivers side right rear rail where the rear exhaust bracket was fitted had the 4 nuts welded inside the rail as per the passenger side.  The exhaust bracket was a factory pressed shorter version.
Have only ever seen one other shell with these nuts installed and it was also a 2/70, but have observed a few 70 models with the holes but no nuts.
Confused!

Could you take a picture. That is very interesting. Do you still have the car and what do Ford say in their authenticity statement.

Anommolies like this can often be explained by DOLLARS........some bean counter worked out that the 2 into 1 system as we see in the Official Aussie Workshop Manual, was a dollar cheaper.  So $100,000 saved for every 1000 cars!
Maybe more as I just realised one muffler is deleted with the official 2 into 1 as in the Book.
OR
a certain number of CKD Kits may have come to Oz with L & R independent Exhausts with the fittings already installed
OR
as un-tasteful as it seems, some dealers may have "modified" batches of V6 Capris to immitate the Mustang that they were meant to emulate, and so sell them at much higher prices when they were "supposedly" sold as second-hand, and "supposedly" the original owner traded it in "a very short time after purchasing new ?

For years rumours spread that these unscrupulous dealers would put BRAND NEW CARS in their friends or family members names, and after winding up the Odometer to show a few hundred miles, suddenly they would appear on the "deck" as GOOD AS NEW & MODIFIED and sell for a hell of a lot more than concreted list prices.
aka INSIDE GUZUMPING !

Lots of inconsistencies that just add more interest and attraction to these Ford Capri Icons IMHO
