Here's the Ford original photo's from their 2 page flyers for the 1600GT and the GT/V6 showing the bonnet pins and locations. The 1600GT was only assembled in 1969, with the last 3 cars in January, 1970 and the GT/V6 flyer is dated 2/70, meaning February, 1970. Hope this helps, Terry

Thanks Darian, that's exactly the pics I was after.  I wanted to see if they drilled the frame or had a different frame.

It can be seen in Terry's photos and the ones from the manual that the pins were closer to the centre in 69.  What I think happened is that they were initially drilled to avoid the bonnet frame, but when viewed from the top side they looked out of place so in 70 they moved them outwards and drilled through the frame.

On the bonnet flip that I saw, as well as wrecking the bonnet, the roof was all caved in, so now that more have been confirmed I am leaning towards keeping the pins and moving them in, or at least some sort of hidden safety strap.  Thanks for the offer JR but I will stick with correct year pins.

My listing had over 2500 views, 197 watchers and just 1 bid.  That tells me that the market for this condition/price point is way too small so I wont bother listing again until I have re sprayed it and corrected the interior.  Who knows I might be able to have a crack at that record price once it's done

Thanks for all your input.

I personally reckon it was just the wrong time of year just to close to Xmas.

Just got my copy of the Ford verification letter, option 47 delete hood lock pins.  Never knew that was an option - always learning something new about these cars.  Also I notice the mirror is RH only option so someone along the way has added the left mirror.  I guess removing that for 'originality' would be a dumb thing to do, so another tick for not worrying about 100% originality and keeping the bonnet pins.  Maybe I will even add dummy vents and over riders.

I felt much more comfortable with the GT bonnet fitted, with now having the bonnet pins. Previously it used to wallow around at speed, despite having the stops adjusted. Plus the slam panel would always deform where the catch stikes when released. 46 years of opening the bonnet must have made it weaker.
Better to be slightly non original than splattered alongside the road IMHO.
On that, the other thread recently about interior mirrors? I learnt a few years ago that rear view mirrors where stuck t the inside of the windscreen instead of mounted permanently on the roof beam so that in an accident, when the glass breaks, the mirror stalk goes with it. Check our MK1 Capri ones, nice scalp gouger.
(merry christmas too guys!)

I asked to come see the car before making a bid and even asked to see if it didn't sell as I was a cash buyer. You kindly told me no even though I would never buy a car off a picture or sight unseen. Irrelevant now as I've picked up two farm finds and a new running capris anyways. But it always pays to show a little respect to people as you never know how fat there wallet is....

I don't know what you are trying to imply but it did technically sell which automatically invoked an ebay contract and it took me the mandatory 10 days for ebay to formally cancel the contract, but in any case I was pretty clear about my availability and that I would keep it if not sold so not really a true reflection of the conversation we had, but welcome to the forum and best of luck with your projects.

Attachment says it all.
Clearly stated, bidding starts at 25k, then the question is asked so how much do you want for it? wow, either can't read or a numpty, maybe both.
People like this are the reason I don't sell cars, just build more garage spaces

Drewdog the question of how much he wanted for it was simply asked because I have no interest in getting into a bidding war. It never hurts as a buyer to always try and get the best price possible.. you only have to ask. However if you read the conversation I'm guessing the seller was hoping 2-3 people would just bid crazy on it.. my post was a simple reply to the fact that I still would have bought it but reality is I was never going to be able to view it before the Auction finished. If it went back up for sale tommorow I would probably still buy it. I pick up my 6th capri on Saturday and don't mind buying another 1 or 10. But given the seller is now keeping it and does reside in the same city as myself I hope
To see it out cruising soon as there is not enough around anymore in Perth
