Trying to do a fix up on a V6 diff which has a bearing noise not a whine. I replaced the wheel bearings and it’s still there. I’ve pulled apart another diff and also have a new 3.09 setup. I’ve got the bearing numbers for the center and one bearing number( the easy one from the pinion) but there is a bearing pushed right up against the pinion cog that without removing I can’t find its details. Can anyone help with this. Just need to go to a few suppliers tomorrow to source them so I can replace all in one go. I haven’t pulled the suspect diff apart yet just preparing and guaranteeing I do this job once. The noise seems to come from the center at all speeds but gets less as it heats up. Wheel bearings have both now been replaced. Thanks in advance.

Don't forget that if you have a solid spacer you may need to re-shim, if its a crushable you will need to replace.

Managed to source all bearings from the one bearing shop here in Sydney. They are my supplier of all bearings I use and new they would be able to help out. Only issue is the carrier bearings at $102 each. Although they have come up with a different bearing and solution with a thinner bearing at $32.50 each which require a shim. I’ve ordered both but trust their judgement after 15years helping me out on all my machinery. Advance Bearings in Blacktown they are sourcing the pinion seals and the correct wheel bearings at $29.50 and always in stock. Gotta love that.

And had the same issue that JR did with the previous owner fitting the wrong wheel bearing shim. Made a bit of a mess of the wheel bearing support but a bit of die grinding and the proper shim sorted it all out. I must say I think the wrong shim ruined the diff carrier, spider gears were binding and all because of a $5.00 shim someone didn’t fit right.
