Well, a couple of developments today. I finished the small remaining jobs, like fitting the VDO temp sensor, and drove the car out of the garage and onto the road under its own power for the very first time. The engine was fine, but the brakes are bloody awful. Either the vacuum assist isn't working right or not connected, or I did one hell of a crappy brake bleed. I am tipping its the first one, as I am sure that I did a good and proper job with the brake fluid change.
On a positive note, the tacho started working. I think the demon moved from the tacho to the brakes. The tacho was dormant until I was out driving the RS on the road to put it onto the car trailer, then all of a sudden it started working and now works fine every time I start the car. Either the needle got stuck slightly once, or the counter inside needed some time running to get going but whatever, it works and I am grateful for that.
I towed the RS to Premier Exhaust today, who will fit the car with a 2 inch system with a bolt on flange welded onto the extractors. The car will get one muffler and one resonator, should sound pretty well and facilitate a much wilder head on the engine when I finish it.
With any luck I might have the car blue slipped tomorrow, but might be pushing my luck, we'll see. Actually, I'll have to check the brakes before blueslip. My plates won't be in for another week though anyway.
I'm starting to really regret the fact that the Weber synchronous 40s have had their choke plates removed. It might help absolute top end airflow, but a choke would be gold while the car is cold. Might see about fitting one from another Weber or perhaps trying to find some originals, unsure yet.
Absolutely loving how the car looks in the flesh though, it's so tough! When I get the car back I'll get some photos of how it sits on the street.
