I found that my 40 was far better to drive than the 32/36 and gave better performance and fuel economy both around town and in a trip, they must be jetted right thou. Just my 2c worth. Great looking car, top job[:p]

Nah, I haven't, would look cool though.

Interesting, thanks. I'll see what happens with the 32/36s on, the idea of a choke does appeal, but it looks like I might be able to put the choke plates from it onto the 40s. I'll see what happens.

I was looking at your car parked on the foreshore today about 3pm
but there was no one near it
it looks good in the flesh
(I was not in my escort I was in my other toy silver 356)

I'm also seriously looking at ripping off the chokeless Weber synchronous 40s and putting a choke-enabled 32/36 Weber on, as the DFAV 40s are giving me mucho problemos at the moment and no choke is a real hassle with this camshaft. It's so lumpy the engine won't idle below 1200rpm so without a choke, it requires three feet to keep it running when braking while cold.

I can completely understand where you're coming from with that, my DHLA40's do have the choke, but when I try starting it without the chokes on it just won't run (when it's cold anyway).

Thanks mate, it's not perfect and no show car but its fun. Yeah that day I took my better half into town seeing as the sun was out but didn't realise there was some big show thing on, so had to park on the foreshore to walk down to the shops for a cold drink.

I'll have the car at the upcoming cruise for those going, looking forward to it, but won't be going nuts in the car as the engine still only has 300km on it at the moment (but used two tanks doing it heh, mostly when the 40DFAV was on, better now that the choked 32/36 is back on, really could use a dyno tune).

A big hello to everyone again!

Some people might remember me, had the RS in this thread and the hillclimb two door flat-front that I was building up but gave away to dabble in turbocharged Subarus for a while.

I'm now back in the hunt for another Escort project, I miss them too much! Looking to spend around 6-7k, would probably prefer an RS but not a requirement, so if anyone knows of any bargains then I'm all ears!

It's good to be back.

Welcome back. How was the dark side?

Last you were here, you did some really inspiring stuff. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with this time.

Thanks! It was alright, the Subarus are very quick cars and very idiot proof to drive, on the most part. I'd have to say if you haven't driven a modified WRX or Forester XT, they are well worth taking the opportunity.

In saying that, I'm back here in the Escort camp looking to re-ignite something that the Escorts have, unsure how to describe it but I always want to take the Escort on a drive somewhere, whereas I wouldn't look to be driving the Subarus for the sake of driving them.

Hopefully will find a good Escort to start with and see how we go!
